Of course Taggart desperately wants that job since its still his recruits that are there and probably no one else will take him after what he did to Oregon and how poorly FSU faired under him

>> FootballScoop reports that Central Michigan coach Jim McElwain is one of the coaches emerging as a candidate for the Missouri job following the firing of Barry Odom, along with Tulane's Willie Fritz, Louisiana Tech's Skip Holtz, Air Force's Troy Calhoun, Army's Jeff Monken and Charlotte's Will Healy.<<

Monken should be Mizzou's option....Just sayin...

Early in the week, Healy had emerged as an option for the Missouri job, according to multiple sources.

Attention bottom 50 programs...no one wants your career killing job
Conference realignment has made some P5 football and basketball jobs much more difficult. For example, adding Texas A&M to the SEC West means the ceiling for Arkansas and Ole Miss is the 5th or 6th best program in the division. Sure, you can have a good year, but you can not consistently win at those schools. Why would any up and coming G5 coach or P5 coordinator take the Arkansas or Ole Miss jobs unless they have previous ties to the school or state? Look at Ole Miss schedule for next year. These are the teams they play in 5 consecutive weeks: Auburn, @LSU, Alabama, @Vandy, Florida (and then UConn!). And, they play Baylor and @Texas A&M.

Last 5 coaches at Ole Miss lasted: 3, 5, 4, 3 years before being fired. Last 5 coaches at Arkansas lasted: 2, 5, 1, 4 years before being fired.

This and the equivalent impact it has on the fan base (despair / declining attendance / and ultimately declining revenues) is why the P5 would be foolish to breakaway. The P5 needs the G5 to help puff up their records and accomplishments, otherwise in a closed system schools like Wake, Vandy, Arkansas, Northwestern, Rutty are in a permanent bottom. Right now the same list is in a near permanent bottom.

In the long run, I think the entire FBS should have a scale that gives non bowl teams 5 more scholarships and 5 more transfer exemptions to help close what has become a widening gap.

Does this mean our next hire is coming from pee wee’s

I feel it will come from a proven FCS / DII or even possibly a DIII head coach..... someone from the northeast with several years of demonstrated ability to run a program. Someone making a big step up. Someone like what Buffalo did with Lance Leipold. I dont we are willing to pay enough to get any other type of coach....unless we get someone looking for a sunset job who already made their $$ elsewhere.

I was kind of hoping this guy would be under the radar for a few more years. I love the focus on the positive - reinforcing that aspect rather than highlighting the negative. Seems like a terrific culture builder.

Yup, yet Healy’s one year with UNC Charlotte and overall bio suggests a P5 opportunity may still be a bit premature versus say a Chris Klieman’s longer experience and success with ND State. No doubt, Healy’s cat’s out of the hat and his agents may be earning their potential keep.

We already have this now.

Mike Bobo - 28-35

Seems like a six year would not have been a bad idea...Colorado State might just find out you can do worse.

I took a look at their home game vs Boise last week, they spent a fortune on a new stadium to attract the B12's attention, about 10k at best in a 40k stadium. The odd thing is they were all forced into the same sections at midfield, so there was miles of gleaming aluminum benches displayed everywhere else.

Okay - rank'em

In many cases, G5 jobs are more attractive than P5 jobs. Why? You can win at some G5s and then wait for the right P5 job to open before you move on. Look at the Cincy job. Coaches have moved on to Michigan St., Notre Dame, and Tennessee, all good P5 jobs. That's why a guy like Luke Fickell is not going to chase just any P5 job. He's going to wait for the right opportunity.

2 and 3 was real close

Five of these schools pays competitive wages. The rest pays with food stamps.
Not true. Here's what the top 3 G5 jobs on the list paid:

USF: $2.7 million. This year, he also got a $2.5 million retention bonus.
Colorado St.: $1.8 million plus bonus potential of $905k
UTSA: $1.2 million plus $185k bonus.

I was being facetious. The avg salary of those P5 schools is $3.5 mil. That's probably $2 mil+ more on avg than those six other schools. No one with a brain is going to stay at those six schools if offered the HC job at any of those five P5 schools.

I think UConn initially paid Diaco 1.6 million, which was like 200k less than Clemson was paying Dabo. Then P5 money happened and coaching salaries exploded.

Wanna know why Helton is sticking around? Check out the first half of USC’s 2020 schedule. 2021 is a cakewalk by comparison. Why set the new guy up for failure?

Urban Meyer probably turned them down.

Nah. SC is a top 5 coach job. They can get anyone. They’re throwing Helton back to the wolves and biding time. Their recruiting class is also weak, so he can blamed for that as well. He’s a lame duck patsy any way you slice it.
