2019/20 UConn Recruiting

I find it interesting to watch the reactions of the recruits at the games. Boston and Bueckers seem to have no problem showing emotion when we make good plays, while Brunelle and Fudd are very stoic while watching the games. I'm not sure you can read anything more into that, other than the latter might have been coached to not react to game situations. I think what might be more important is the fact that all 4 of them have made quite a few unofficial visits to UCONN games. My assumption is that the school cannot pay for their (or their parents) travel expenses. If that is correct, then it speaks volumes about their interest in joining the UCONN program. I think it's impossible to watch the "rock stars" of WCB and not visualize yourself as part of that scene in the future. I see Boston thinking she could be the new AS or NC, Brunelle seeing herself as the KLS replacement etc...

On an unrelated issue, I come to this thread looking for UCONN recruiting info and lately it has gone way off track, discussing a number of former male players. Is it possible for the mods to move those posts to a new OT thread? Same issue with the subject of "burnout" taking over another thread dealing with future recruits after someone posted an old video of Von Lith doing drills. This is not a major deal, but as a new Boneyard devotee I especially enjoyed my first month or so reading this site since it seemed that posters kept on topic. Again, not a major deal, just a thought.

I will say, the Boneyard does have the most knowledgeable and positive group of regular posters, including visitors from other teams' fan base, of any college fan sites I read. Congrats on that!

The school can pay for one official recruiting visit during a recruits senior year, which must be one of no more than five designated official visits for that recruit to up to 5 different schools

Is it really only during their Sr. year? Many recruits have verballed by their Jr. year and if they sign LOI during early period (November), it doesn't leave much time to do up to 5 official visits during their Sr. year. For the class of '18, almost the entire top 100 on some recruiting lists have already signed.

I could be wrong but I believe NCAA rules only allow a paid visit in the senior year of HS since that's the year you can officially sign a LOI

I'm not sure either. If that's the case, then the VAST majority of women's recruits are not taking advantage of their possible 5 official visits. I just don't see how they can squeeze in 5 trips between the start of the school year and the early signing period.

Great second half for Azzi Fudd against national power Paul IV Wednesday to lead St. John's College to the win.

Fudd finished with 27 points.

Watch the entire game on replay here. Starts about 6:00 in.

Fudd started this game 2-8 but ended up 8-16, 4-5 from three, 7-7 from the line. Also had 7 rebounds.

Was being guarded very tough by Ashley Owusu for most of the game before Owusu cramped and left and then came back less than 100%.

I believe a few years ago the NCAA changed the rule to allow Official Visits to occur after the HS season had been completed in their junior year. This specifically has to do with the changing time frames of recruiting and commitments - the fall signing period used to be termed as teh 'early signing period' with most recruits only signing in the spring of their senior year, then more kids started signing in the fall and now it is rare for rated recruits to wait until the spring, and most recruits have already committed before the end of the summer.

A lot of recruits have already committed before they take their official visit, but it still is a nice free visit for them.

19 points for Kylie Watson (2020) Wednesday.

Paige Bueckers scored 22 points on Tuesday (1/2).

OK, I thought of Banks from Duke, but I didn't remember his name being Gene. He had an unbelievable physique. I think he was one of Coach K's first great recruits (after Alarie, Bilas, and co. I think).

I got to Duke (for graduate school) about 1-2 years before Mike K.. Those were some of his early recruits and I even got to play some pickup with them. Best athlete I ever played BB with was Lawrence Taylor. Incredible speed and agility for his size. Both Coach K and I are getting on in years.

New highlight mixtape of Paige Bueckers from this season:

Thanks for the PB video. I think one word can pretty much sum it up. WOW!!!
I know it's a highlight video, but it shows that she can do everything: shoot behind the arc; shoot off the dribble penetration; shoot while moving to her right or left and pass. Plus she seems to have some of Gabby's athletic abilities.

If I had only one wish for recruiting the next 2 years it would be Paige Bueckers. Don't misunderstand, I want others, but if we could only get ONE, she would be it. I'm glad she has shown so much interest in attending games and showing her excitement watching our team. Obviously, the weather should not be a factor with her coming from MN.

Geno/CD-----GET HER. If everyone stays the course, we will have 4 open scholarships that year with Danger, Irwin, Camera and Bent departing.

Ok, I'm calling Geno tomorrow. We are getting Paige if it's the last thing I do on This earth This earth! The girl can flat out play! Looks like it's in her DNA and it comes easy. I won't compare her to former or current WCBB players because I dread doing that but I will say her game has swagger and attitude. She will only get better on the big stage!

From the first moment I saw her at the U16's I said to myself, that girl is nice nice. She has good body control for her age. A real ballers mentality. UConn perfect.

Paige Bueckers is extremely Taurasi-like. She is the best all around player I have seen in a long time.

Yet another stat-sheet stuffer for Saylor Poffenbarger Friday (1/5):

25 points, 9 assists, 5 steals, 3 blocks
