MaxPreps Top 25 National Girls Basketball Rankings -
By: Clay Kallam | MaxPreps.com - Wednesday, December 27, 2017

There's a two-part process to becoming a member of the Xcellent 25: 1) Play good teams; 2) Beat them.

Our new No. 1, Archbishop Mitty of San Jose, has followed that recipe to perfection. Even though Northern California (aside from Mitty and St. Mary's of Stockton) is not as strong as in the past, the San Jose Catholic school first played the best teams it could find in the area.

Then coach Sue Phillips, a gold-medal winner with USA Basketball, scheduled a trip to the usually loaded Nike TOC in Arizona, and hit the jackpot. Six of the top ten teams in the Xcellent 25 were in Gilbert, just south of Phoenix, including the three teams ranked ahead of previous No. 4 Mitty. And then Archbishop Mitty beat all three, on consecutive nights.

Included is a Video of 15-year old dunking queen Canadian sophomore Laeticia Amihere who has become a dunking sensation.

Bob Corwin's take on the Nike TOC:

Haley Jones 6-1 2019 Archbishop Mitty High School (San Jose, California) MVP

Jones is one of the most versatile players in the USA capable of playing all positions thanks to high level skill set combined with high basketball IQ and 6-1 height. She scores in and out of the paint but also makes others around her better.

Cameron Brink's line from Thursday: 12 points (6-9 fg), 8 rebounds, 4 assists

Made two terrific passes, one over a double team. Also made a hustle play where she came out of nowhere to dive on the floor and pick up a loose ball, passing to a teammate who hit a three. She is NOT a perimeter player, at least not yet. High-level skill though; really impressive turn-around jumper in the post. Has some Brittney Griner to her game with super-quick feet. Impacts in numerous ways.

Game replay:

Brink runs the floor well for a player her height, even beating a few guards up and down, she might not score a lot playing on a stacked team, but I think she’s the top player in 2020.

Most intriguing thing I saw in that game from Brink was she is absolutely fluid with and without the ball and an advanced passer. Getting to number one in that class will be a tall order though.

Cameron Brink impresses again with 24 points (11-17 fg) and 10 rebounds:

It all starts with the commanding interior presence of Brink. She not only scored on post-ups and putbacks, but also showed off a nice midrange jumper.

“I’m developing my outside game, for sure, and I’m just getting stronger to play through stuff,” Brink said. “Strength and shooting, I’m definitely taking a step forward in that kind of stuff.”

Brink showcased her wide range of skills against Clackamas. On one play in the second half, she blocked a shot on a baseline drive, grabbed the rebound and drove coast-to-coast for a basket, also drawing a foul.

“The thing about her is she’s got like five more steps she can take,” Bergmann said of Brink, who entered averaging 16.4 points and 11.7 rebounds.

A little more on Jones' Thursday performance:

Reigning Cal-Hi Sports State Junior of the Year and Ms. Basketball State Player of the Year leading candidate Haley Jones put on a display of dribbling, passing and smooth moves that left several Chaminade defenders faked out of their sneakers and prompted one fan to blurt out “it’s just not fair.” The 6-1 ESPNW No. 1 rated junior wing and No. 5 ranked junior in the nation overall finished with a double-double 19 points, six steals and four assists – and she did it in less than three quarters of action

Replay of Cameron Brink's game Friday.

She hit numerous 12-14 foot jumpers in this one, looked like a gazelle on two transition baskets, and showed her high basketball IQ, footwork, and foot speed. Think she would be my 3rd leg in a 4x4 relay. Missed both her threes kinda badly, but the form on her shot from further in is really smooth.
