>>Connecticut - The Huskies welcomed UCF to frigid Storrs and won two out of three in the AAC showdown series. UConn is quietly building an intriguing host resume, with a No. 19 RPI ranking, a 17-10 overall record, and series wins over UCF, St. John’s and Southeastern Louisiana, along with single wins over Georgia Tech and Coastal Carolina.

The UConn bullpen couldn’t hold an 8-4 lead in the ninth inning of Saturday’s series opener, as the Knights stormed back with four runs to tie it, then won it 10-8 in 11 innings. But the Huskies bounced back strong bright and early on Sunday, scoring three runs in the first inning of a doubleheader that started at 8:30 a.m., with temperatures in the low 30s. Chase Gardner (6.2 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) nearly went the distance in that seven-inning contest, a 6-2 UConn win. There was a flurry of scoring in the late innings of the rubber game, but Connecticut earned a walk-off 7-6 win with a run in the ninth, even without putting a ball in play, as three walks and a wild pitch forced in the winning run.<<

I find it interesting that D1 says UConn has an intriguing host resume despite not cracking their Top 25 once this year.

Need to string a few good weeks together... I would think if we didn’t poooch the opening series w/ USF - it be a different picture.

I think it's more a projection of how they expect the rest of our season to play out

Interesting. I doubt UConn is on target for hosting, but given the strength of the AAC, UConn could have a shot at hosting if they finish first or second in the conference. That would mean a lot series wins inside the conference.

Other item. If UConn takes care of business against Bryant (they have an RPI of 93 and always seem to have one of the better baseball teams in the northeast, so it won't be an easy game) and then wins an AAC road series over a well regarded Wichita State team, the Huskies could find themselves back in the top 25 of some polls.

I was just looking at D1’s “How They Fared” it looks like UConn should jump up a couple spots

The NCAA is conscious about how regional NCAA baseball is. They love opportunities to get the tournament into the Rust Belt and Northeast. One of the recent times we hosted in Norwich, we were not the one seed.

Plus, RPI matters more than polls.
