2017 Gold Cup

Attempting an intentional Boneyard Jinx.

Zardes sucks - guy can't finish.

If Jordan Morris and Zardes go to Russia I might quit following this team.

I actually think that Zardes had been one of the better players on the field for us tonight.

Of course, that's more of an indictment than a compliment... :(

Not saying it's going to happen but when was the last time the US didn't make the knock out round. Right now they are on the outside looking in with Panama getting the win today. There's still a half to go but for goodness sake, it's flipping Martinique and we can't score a goal?

A crappy (or scrappy) Gonzalez goal may have just saved us from getting embarrassed by an island with a population less than the city of El Paso...

Shoot! I forgot I was 8 minutes behind!

Sorry about that.

United States 1, New London County 0

(I would have said New Haven County, but that would be almost 3x the population of Martinique)

Finally, a moment of quality!

Ugh! Two moments of quality. One of high quality, and one of poor quality...

I'm just spitballin here but it might be time to move on from Guzan...

.-.
Thank you, Jordan! Good grief.

Tonight is what happens when you make a bunch of changes and expect everyone to play cohesively. Arena should have just picked three or four to switch to get a better evaluation and a better performance, I think...

I think it's more about what happens when you sit many of your best players and replace them with stiffs.

I'm starting to think Brad Guzan might not be a long term answer.

Oh, there's no doubt in anyone's mind that this is the C team. But the reason for bringing the C team was to evaluate certain players to see if they could advance to the main squad. Why not put the best of them out there at the same time?

A: Because we didn't respect Martinique.

Bad move...

Amazing. We put in our best center mid, and the chances start coming in bunches.

This is a much easier game when your best player is on the field. For me, McCarty is the best player on the Gold Cup roster. He should play the remainder of the games...

Landycakes gives a list of the good players not here and fails to mention their best player.

ESPY night is the worst sports TV night of the year. Salvation did not lie within this game.

I don't even like the NBA but spent most of the second half trying to figure out who has the worst roster in the league.

Wow... what a piss poor performance. I know this was the C team, but still... pretty disappointing performance from guys who know what's at stake for themselves personally, as it relates to earning a roster spot for Russia. And you can't even be mad, b/c it's not like they didn't play up to their skill level, it's that they did and the result is a nail biter v. Martinique. We have no depth. Brooks, Cameron, Jonson, and Yedlin better take their "stay healthy" pills thru 2018 because our defensive depth is suspect at best.

Also, can anyone explain why Hamid has not seen a minute in goal if Arena is using this tournament as a way to evaluate players? Arena already knows what he is getting with Guzan.

Definitely agree with that. And what he's getting is a keeper who can make some impressive saves, but is just about as apt to do something klutzy too.

This player pool is a mile wide and an inch deep. What's the point of evaluating more of the same? These players are what we we thought were already.

Hoping Andre Blake of the Reggae Boyz via Storrs can shut down El Tri tonight

Good thing the post is a goalies friend. And its a team game. Otherwise it's 2-0 Mexico at the half
