Sure, JC could prevent the casino from contracting with other schools to play there. It happens every year, I think UK has played there in the past.

JC would not have let a competitor New England school host a game there.

We should be careful about making fun of anybody else. Houston went from making three Final Fours in a row (1982-84) to making exactly two NCAA tournament appearances since 1992, only one of those coming after the SWC imploded, which would today be the equivalent of a P5 conference. It took them until Pender's last season in 2009 to accomplish that one, 14 years after the SWC broke up. They're now more than 20 years removed from the big time. We could be in the same shape they're in 20 years from now, if we spend it all on the outside of the P5 looking in. It can happen.
You are 100% correct here. I could make a list of former powerhouse schools that fell of the face of the earth. These were not quite at UConn's level, but were fixtures in the rankings before falling off.
Houston
St. John's
DePaul
NC State
You could argue that for the first 15 years after the end of the UCLA dynasty, that Indiana was clearly the premier basketball school in America, even over Kentucky, Carolina, and Kansas (Duke was just a wanna be then). What is Indiana now? Some feel that they no longer ever warrant blue blood status. Same goes for UCLA. Any school can stumble. Notice all of the coaches tripping over each other to apply for the Georgetown job? (I'm being sarcastic for those who are a bit slow). Any school can fall, including Alabama Football, which of course did after the Bear left. Few really see the decline early on, but it becomes crystal clear in hindsight. The biggest factor is that anything that happened more than 5-6 years ago is ancient history to the high school kids you need to recruit. Thus, to them, Wichita St. is a powerhouse, while Georgetown is some scrub program that was good when their dad was young.

Houston Announces Non-Con Schedule

vs McNeese
@ Lynn (Exhibition)
Paradise Jam: vs Drexel, Mercer/Liberty, TBD
vs Incarnate Word
vs New Orleans
vs Arkansas
vs Fairfield
@ Saint Louis
@ LSU
vs Prairie View A&M
vs Providence (Uncasville, CT)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I really don't understand what Houston is doing schedule wise. They continuously schedule these ridiculous non-conference games when we really need them to schedule better non-conference games for RPI purposes. I don't know if its a Sampson thing or what but other than Arkansas and Providence there are absolutely zero games on that slate that help UH or the conference out
Hope they atleast meet up with Colorado or wake in the paradise jam but still damn.

The have like 2000 at their games when they play us. I can only imagine what it's like when ECU is in town. We aren't thatttt bad.
we had 5000 show up for a football game vs SMU a few years ago.

I don't expect UC will release its schedule until a week or 2 before the season.

Fifth Third Arena is being completely gutted so UC is playing at Northern Kentucky's arena and thus have to co-ordinate with NKU on scheduling.

However most of the big games UC knows already. Its not bad at all:

Cayman Island Classic
NOV 20th: Buffalo
NOV 21st: Winner of Richmond/UAB
NOV 22nd: Winner of Iowa/Wyoming

DEC 2ND: @Xavier Crosstown Shootout
DEC 9TH: Florida (Neutral court) Never forget Tribute Classic
DEC 12th: Miss State
DEC 16th: @UCLA

Obviously it isn't UCONN level good schedule, but its a good start.

There schedule could end up being decent but it all depends on who they play in Puerto Rico. There are some really good schools in that tourney as well as some really bad ones

Teams in this conference other than a few have terrible ooc schedules some embarrassing pathetic. Teams have to get better and schedule better. Probably two much to ask.

Every year that tourney usually brings in a few big names but the rest of the teams are always bad.

SMU's schedule (of what we know so far) is much better than the past few years:

Atlantis tournament - we'll play 3 of the following: Villanova, Arizona, NC State, Purdue, Tennessee, Western Kentucky, and Northern Iowa.
@ TCU (could possibly be ranked)
Vs. USC (will be ranked)
Vs. Boise State (74 final RPI last yr surprisingly)

No clue on the rest yet.

Not bad. Thanks, Mr. Walker. I'm guessing you are an SMU fan...

Wichita State: Wichita State ticket prices rise and fans are still buying

Nov. 10 — UMKC

Nov. 13 — College of Charleston

Nov. 20 — California at Maui Invitational

Nov. 21 — VCU/Marquette at Maui Invitational

Nov. 22 — at Maui Invitational

Nov. 28 — Savannah State

Dec. 2 — at Baylor

Dec. 5 — South Dakota State

Dec. 9 — at Oklahoma State

Dec. 16 — Oklahoma at Intrust Bank Arena

Dec. 19 — Arkansas State

Dec. 22 — Florida Gulf Coast

Still needs to be finalized, apparently waiting on one home game:

“The biggest question is, ‘When is the schedule going to get released?’ ” Wilkins said.

WSU’s non-conference schedules is waiting on one game, likely a home game as part of the Maui Invitational. Dates and TV for the American portion of the schedule was announced in early September last season.

Here's my compiling of all of the announced OOC games so far for UConn along with each team's RPI:

Colgate, 295
BU, 192
Oregon, 9
Mich St(51) /Depaul (236)
UNC(5)/Arkansas(25)/Oklahoma (169)/Portland (235)
Columbia, 262
Monmouth - 48
Coppin State - 336
Villanova - 1
Syracuse - 84
Arizona - 2
Auburn - 114

Must wins: Colgate, BU, Columbia, Coppin St.
Good matchups: Oregon, Monmouth, Cuse, Auburn
Pie in sky chance of win: Arizona, Nova

The PK80 brings in an interesting level of possibility. Oregon will be tough, but they are replacing their top-5 players from last year which amassed 64.3 ppg, which is why I listed Oregon as a "good matchup".

There's plenty of challenge in this OOC, we just have to make hay with it.

Be a shame if we lose to those teams with bad scheduling. Just saying.

That Tulane schedule is an abomination. They couldn't have scheduled worse if they tried.

UCONN NICK:
Very astute observation considering where you are right now. But it's not your conference, it's your coach. You schedule very well.... as good or better than most. You get good players....recruiting isn't bad.

You need to execute. You are not.

Good god, Memphis. Watch them lose most of those games anyway.
