Why is it that other schools seem to always have an "open" period when it comes to recruiting? ( i.e. Michigan, or Auburn, which had a few of our targets at their game this past weekend.. Donald Stewart and Rashan Gary(sp?) )

http://www.ncaa.org/student-athletes/resources/recruiting-calendars

What is a contact period?
During a contact period a college coach may have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, watch student-athletes compete and visit their high schools, and write or telephone student-athletes or their parents.

What is an evaluation period?
During an evaluation period a college coach may watch college-bound student-athletes compete, visit their high schools, and write or telephone student-athletes or their parents. However, a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents off the college’s campus during an evaluation period.

What is a quiet period?
During a quiet period, a college coach may only have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents on the college’s campus. A coach may not watch student-athletes compete (unless a competition occurs on the college’s campus) or visit their high schools. Coaches may write or telephone college-bound student-athletes or their parents during this time.

What is a dead period?
During a dead period a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high schools. Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period.

Good news...
November 29, 2015, through January 30, 2016 [except for (1) and (2) below]: Six (6) in-person, off-campus contacts per prospective student-athlete shall be permitted during this time period with not more than one permitted in any one calendar week (Sunday through Saturday) or partial calendar week.

Within that span there is a dead period for all recruits from December 14th through January 13th.

All information for the 2015-2016 recruiting calendar can be found here: http://www.ncaa.org/sites/default/files/Bowl Subdivision Football.pdf

Really hoping we can snag a couple kids from this mess. With so many coaching changes, this is prime time for programs to snag ex-coaches recruits.

We should be looking at those who verballed to both Maryland and Rutgers. Those are the two coaching changes within our core recruiting area. We should also be ready to look at Temple's list.

How about Virginia as well?

That's a fair point. We take plenty of Virginia players, especially from greater DC, and both UVA and VTU are undergoing change.
My thoughts exactly. Not to mention with Diaco and Poindexter's past experience with the area.

rivals now has us offering OG Terrance Davis... rated # 2 overall OL in class of '16 per rivals... He doesn't seem to have any interest in us though... would be something if we could sneak in and bring a kid like that aboard.

#UConn was at Oxbridge Academy today to see '16 TE/LB AJ Garson. The senior is a #BowlingGreen commit. #BGSU #Huskies

AJ Garson is a 6-6 235lb from West Palm Beach and attending Oxbridge Academy of the Palm Beaches. As noted he is committed to BGSU and had other offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Oregon State, Idaho and Colgate.

Damn, they love TEs. How bout we offer some RBs.
was thinking the same thing... we keep getting guys that played TE and DE ... then figure out where to put them when they get here... Hopefully we'll start seeing the fruits of this trend in year 3 of the Bob Diaco regime.

Carrezola was recruited at Tight End and is on the verge of becoming UConn's version of J.J. Watt. How is that a bad thing?

OTOH, if the Pasqualoni era demonstrated anything, it's that the offensive line is as responsible as any one group on the field (except maybe for QB) for the success of the team, let alone the offense. Throughout his 28 game fiasco, the offensive line got worse. There is no doubt that Lyle McCombs and Chandler Whitmer suffered as a direct result. Not that I have a say in who commits and who doesn't, but I'm okay with putting the running back on the back burner and picking up and developing another Eric Fisher (2* Defensive player turn 1st pick overall out of a small school).

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that Diaco is trying to build a very large team and get bigger/more athletic players on the edge, as we've seen by the mammoths he's brought in so far. Diaco sees someone who is 6-6 with some speed and wets his pants. Personally, I like targeting the big guys.

Heck with RBs, how about some big uglies to protect the QB and create holes for RB? I'd like to see at least 3 more in this class.

Maybe with emergence of frosh wideouts, we can swap Lucas back to CB and move Brice to RB?

My sense is that the hybrid athlete - DE/OLB/TE - offers unlimited possibilities to a staff that is focused on developing talent and recognizes the field is being stretched more horizontally than vertically. Put some bulk on a Chris Lee and he could end up as an OT. Might an Atkins continue to put on weight and shift inside? You get these guys in, put them in a S&C program, and you have options. You bring in an OL and you better be right, because they have limited opportunity to develop elsewhere.

Agreed we need some more OL, but we have a few young and promising guys there as well. Peart, Rutherford and Cespedes should all develop to be good players. Nino Leone (2016 class) is also an absolute giant at 6-5 335 out of high school. I'd like to see one or two OL guys as well, but we've got a decent stock as is.

My view is we should recruit 4/5 OL every year. We've heard good things about some young guys, but let's be honest - you've named 3, total, and we have not seen any of them (ex-Ruth.) on the field, and none can beat out guys who are the weakest link on the team. We have bodies, I am not convinced we have talent or depth on the OL

They can recruit 14 OL's/year. What they cannot do is force them to sign on the line which is dotted.

Also, 2 of the 3 names phil mentioned are freshmen looking to redshirt. Rutherford is a true sophomore who, like many in his class, rightfully received on the job training last year. If at any position, OL is where I would love to see them all redshirt their first year. Most end their Senior HS year in the mid-200s weight-wise and need to put on some beef. Either that or they've been pushing around high school players for whom football is not in their future and could rely on mostly strength and force vs. technique and need a year for refinement.

By recruit, I meant sign. I assumed folks understood we can recruit every single OL in America and Canada. I'd like to see us sign an entire OL every year.

We need to be really honest about our OL - it was healthy and played every game together. And in Game 12, they got thrown around like rag dolls by a good, not great, front 7. That's the reality of where we are after a full year of them working together/building chemistry and timing (6 months if you want to factor in Crozier injury). It has to get way better.

Last year we heard Oak was pushing for PT and this year the C gets hurt and he gets beat out by a guy who never played C. As such, I am not banking on the 2 true frosh (or RSFr) until they see the field and contribute. And if they do, great; but I want to know there is a guy pushing for PT on the 2d team. And I want to know we're rolling in 4/5 guys in every class to continue to build depth

I could live with this.. until we finally get it right up front on that side of the ball. Which is why I wouldn't mind seeing us grab a JUCO kid or GS transfer, that can provide immediate help up front. We need it.. and, IMO, nobody on our OL is good enough to not get replaced.

Nice to see us looking into the fruitful recruiting grounds in Big D, home of my Dallas Cowboys... plenty of talent in that area I'm sure.

btw, there's a kid on our radar there... my name sake T/DT Douglas Tucker
wonder if we're in on his teammate WR Xavier Suggs too?

huskymedic - you know a lot more than me about this but I can't help but wonder.. any news involving these two?
