2016 AAC Tournament Bracket

Couple of thoughts on the bracket. Unless something crazy happens, Temple is going to be the No. 1 seed. They have a 2 game lead on everyone else (minus SMU who obviously is not in play here) and they have the tiebreakers over everyone else. Even if they lose at Tulsa, their last 3 games are UCF/Memphis at home, and at Tulane. I don't see them losing any of those games.

If UConn/Cincy/Tulsa all have the same record at the end of the year, Cincy and Tulsa will finish ahead of UConn because of tiebreakers. I think Tulsa can win out, while Cincy still has tough games at Houston and hosting SMU.

I wouldn't mind this bracket. If we could get past Houston, I would love to play Temple again. We owe them and are due to beat them.

That bracket makes me feel a million times worse about yesterday wow

Temple always stays behind, but just jacks a bunch of clutch 3s at the end. That strategy can't work every game.

I feel it is going to us vs Cincy for the championship.

Agree with CA. Unless we are #1 or #2 the quarterfinal game on a neutral court will be debatable. I've got to think uconn fans will travel better than whichever opponent they'll face throughout the tourney so there may actually be a little advantage. Previously I'd said Memphis fans would be there in droves. But I doubt anyone here would admit to going anywhere but disney that week. I also want another shot at temple, but they do continue to surprise

It wouldn't be an AAC tournament without UConn beating Cincinnati in the semis.

2 straight down years has taken its toll on Memphis. Their crowd vs us was pitiful. This is the reason the tournament is coming back to Hartford, they know we will at least show up. (USF tourney game aside.)

What is the 2nd tie breaker after h2h that Tulsa has over UConn?

Record vs 1st place. Tulsa is 1-1 vs Temple, UConn is 0-2.

It's embarrassing that we lost twice to Temple. They almost just lost to UCF on their home floor.

Temple is 92nd on KenPom. You have to think they need to get to at least the AAC Championship game to get in.

I'm not going to disagree that the losses were embarrassing, mostly because of the way they occurred, but let's not pretend that teams in this conference bring the same level of focus and intensity to games against the rest of the conference that they do for games against us. We've earned a big bullseye with our success.

I've lost track - are we locked into the 5 at this point?

Here's the updated bracket and games remaining for the top 5:
  1. Temple: Memphis, @Tulane
  2. Cincinnati: @Houston, SMU
  3. Houston: Cinci
  4. Tulsa: USF
  5. Connecticut: @SMU, UCF

Not necessarily, but would need a lot of help to move out of the 4-5 game top 6 teams (including SMU) are only separated by 2 games in the loss column with 2 to play for everyone besides Tulsa and Houston both 11-6. Memphis is definitely the 6 though.

American Standings
TEAM CONF OVERALL
SMU 12-4 24-4
Temple 12-4 18-10
Cincinnati 11-5 21-8
Houston 11-6 21-8
Tulsa 11-6 19-10
Connecticut 10-6 20-9
Memphis 7-9 16-13
UCF 5-11 11-16
South Florida 4-12 7-22
East Carolina 3-13 11-18
Tulane 3-13 10-19

If Houston beats Cincy, we win out, who has the tiebreaker between us and Houston? Does it go to overall records?

I asked this in regards to Tulsa and it goes by record against the first place team.

Oh please. Bullseye my ass. We finished 5th in the conference last year and 3rd this year and haven't been ranked for all but a few weeks of that two year stretch and we've got an SMU message board poster joking that they'd prefer to play the men's team rather than the woman's team because they "really need a win."
Whatever bullseye we may have had a couple of years ago has faded with our regular season success, so please finish the circle jerk and let's get on with trying to get back where we were.

Would SMU be the first place team, if they keep first place, or would they be exempt
Not sure because temple was in 1st at the time and we were 0-2 and Tulsa was 1-1. @tcf15 do you have a list of the top 4 tie break scenarios? Hypothetically could have 4 teams finish with 6 losses Houston, Cinci, Tulsa and UConn for seeds 2-5.

So Tulsa beats UCF and Cincy beats Houston, we play Houston and then Temple ? Sign me up. I will gladly take that schedule with a shot at Cincy/Tulsa in the championship game.

I disagree. Happens all the time. Like playing Penn State in football. They're not great but most teams still get up for that match up. We're arguably the most successful bball program of the last 20 years. I'm not saying anyone's scared of us, but they definitely circle us when the schedule comes out.

Feel free to join actual reality at any time, buddy. If you're a 20 yr old college player, we won the national championship when you were 3, won again you were 8, were in the final four again when you were 13, national champions again when you were 15, and national champions again when you were 18. But you're right, I'm sure it's exactly the same as all the other teams with no accomplishments because we finished 5th in the league last year and are 3rd this year.

You ever notice how when we play teams on the road, a good percentage of the time they pan to the crowd to show one of the home team's greatest players from the past? Which do you think is more likely, that Oscar Robertson attends all Cincinnati home games, or that he looks at the schedule at the beginning of the year and picks a couple high profile games to go to, and one of those is ours?

That was a great joke by the SMU poster though, aside from the fact that it's literally the most generic go-to insult used to make fun of our men's team by every other college message board on the internet over the last decade, and the fact that SMU's season is over in 2 games regardless, so they don't really "need" any wins.

I would sign for this now, except by "moving up" to play Memphis (potentially), it would likely mean we're safe, come selection sunday. I'd take the angst deletion over the better matchup.

What would make us safe: (1) that moving up means we beat SMU and UCF (because then I agree), or (2) that Memphis would be an easier win (true in theory but you vastly underestimate this team's ability to throw a good situation out the window)?
