Sam Cassell Jr won a bunch of conference awards: http://www.tcceagles.com/genrel/March_05_Media_All-PC

He won the Panhandle Conference Player of the Year, Panhandle Conference Freshman of the Year, and was on the All-Panhandle Conference 1st team.

For comparisons, here are the last few PC Player of the Year winners:
2013: Chris Jones, now with Louisville...Player Profile
2012: Chris Jones
2011: Carl Hall, played for Wichita State...Player Profile
2010: Brian Bryant, played for Miss St....Player Profile

I think Cassell should be making some Juco All-American team, as all the previous PC POTY on the list above were as well.

Rakim Lubin was awarded All Metro Atlanta 3rd team from the Atlanta Tipoff Club: http://naismithawards.com/PressBox/...lub-Names-2014-High-School-Award-Winners.aspx

Here's a preview of Buford's upcoming game: http://www.scoreatl.com/stories/championship-preview-boys-class-aaa/

loaded area of talent, I only went through the first 2 teams and everyone is either already committed to a D1 school or has D1 offers. When you have a top 10 recruit in the 2015 class in Jaylen Brown that couldn't break through to the 1st team, you know you are dealing with serious competition.

Cassell scored another 26, today, in a victory over Fla's defending champs. The semifinal will be tomorrow, with the finale on Sat. Apparently, he hit on several 3's and had a bunch of assists too.

But it was the play of the Panhandle Conference Player of the Year Cassell, Jr. that continues to make the biggest difference for the Indians.

“Sam is really coming into our own and growing as our point guard and our leader,” Blake said. “He was big all game for us, especially at the free throw line. I thought Central Florida did a good job of taking us out of what we want to do offensively, but Sam is so good at breaking down the defense and getting in the paint, and he helped us get some key baskets down the stretch.”

A major reason for Buford’s 21-game winning streak has been the play of Lubin, a senior transfer from Alabama.

Previously criticized for his leadership and temper throughout the regular season by Whitehart, the 6-foot-6, 250-pound Lubin has elevated his game in the playoffs, taking it upon himself to be a leader for the Wolves.

The University of Connecticut commit is averaging 24 points per game this postseason, four points more than his regular-season average. In the title game, though, Lubin will face one of his toughest tests when he squares off against 6-foot-8 Tennessee commit C.J. Thurman of Morgan County.

Thurman is averaging 12.1 points and 10.4 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs. The Lubin-Thurman matchup between the two big men could be one of the ultimate factors in the title game, according to Whitehart.

“They’re both big, physical, athletic kids,” Whitehart said. “That is going to be a big part of what the game will be decided on.”

Cassell scored 20 yesterday in a semi final win. Chipola led comfortably the entire game. The finale is today at 5EST.

I would assume the winner goes to the juco championships. Cassell could be our most important recruit coming in next year. Hamilton gives us a lot of offense, Lubin gives us additional strength, but, with Bazz leaving, PG is crucial. We don't know if Boat can be successful as our main PG. Samuels isn't quite ready for effective leadership for 25+ minutes next year. That leaves Cassell. From the sounds of his play, he is exactly what is needed. I know it's the juco level, but it's a higher level than high school, plus he brings maturity as he is 3 years removed from HS.

Is Sam playing primarily the 1 at Chipola this year? What are his season averages for points and assists?

Roc doesn't look bulky, just lean and chiseled. If he's carrying 250 lbs he's carrying it well.

Big gam for DHam as his team played Mater Dei again:

@NealNieves: Bosco up 10-3 with 4:29 left in the 1st quarter, Vance Jackson and Daniel Hamilton both have 5 for the Braves.

The game isn't against Mater Dei. I read something wrong. Mater Dei is in the next game.

Yeah, it is a bit confusing. There are two Mater Dei's in So Cal.
St John Bosco (DHam) played & beat Mater Dei Catholic from Chula Vista (San Diego County) in the Division 2 state playoffs (a game SJB should win 10/10 times) on Tuesday night.
The "real" Mater Dei (Stanley Johnson, Rex Pflueger...) is from Santa Ana in Orange County and they are playing in the state Open division (top division) and beat Etiwanda (Jordan McGlaughlin) tonight (Tuesday night).
