Have to think that Ian Cooke, Garrett Coe, and probably Justin Willis are not available out of the bullpen for tomorrow's game. Still, bullpen looks in good shape with Jack Sullivan, Brady Afthim, and Devin Kirby not having pitched yet in the series, and O'Donnell having thrown only a couple pitches today. Would assume that Cole Chudoba most likely will be the starter at this point on Tuesday for the Northeastern game. Of course, if Coach Penders needs Chudoba to pitch tomorrow to help secure a series sweep over Creighton, the start on Tuesday could default to someone like Braden Quinn. Ian Cooke threw 32 pitches today, so he could definitely be used for some innings on Tuesday.

You’re on it. Tomorrow’s game is more important. We shouldn’t need Chudoba, but if we do you pitch him and let your second line pitchers deal with Tuesday on Tuesday.

-> Game Notes
  • The Huskies grabbed their 39th win of the season, tying for third most in program history.
  • UConn is 13-1 in BIG EAST play, its best start to conference play in program history.
  • Justin Willis notched his 13th save, tying Kevin Vance for fourth most in a single-season.
  • Korey Morton returned to the lineup and grabbed a pair of hits. The sophomore is 23-46 (.500) at the plate this season. <-

Those top 100 wins mean a lot. USC moved into the top 100 with a win over Arizona yesterday

No clue why Nova is playing a 2 game series @ #5 VA Tech this weekend, Wildcats got spanked today, but if they can upset the Hokies tomorrow, their slight RPI bump might help us a c-hair (every tiny bit might matter)

Every Big East team has a bye week due to only 7 other teams. UConn scheduled Kent State which would usually be a bump to RPI, but Kent State is having an unusual down year. Would have been nice if we got Va Tech as our Non-conference opponent this year, but unfortunately you just don't know who is going to be good and who not.

It is not really a bye week. Villanova and Georgetown did not want to play a 3 game series during graduation day/week, so those 2 played a series the weekend before all the other Big East teams started playing each other (I think Chris Jones said at one point that they do this every season). So for Big East Conference game weekend purposes, Georgetown and Villanova have this weekend off, but can schedule other teams if they are able to.

Top 2nd, with 1 out, Stefanoni hits a batter. The runner tries to steal 2B, but Donlan throws out another stolen base attempt for the second out. Stefanoni faces the minimum, no score. Stefanoni at 28 pitches.

Bottom 2nd, with 2 out Morton ends up at 3B on a wind blown pop up to very shallow center field that falls in. Morton credited with a triple for UConn's first hit of the game. An infield error on a ball hit by Donlan allows Morton to score, 1-0 UConn.

Funny, for the most part of last summer I did not really enjoy watching Morton play in Norwich. Toward the end of the summer season he did start playing a bit better in Norwich. However, this season with UConn I really love how he utilizes his speed to make things happen, something he really didn't do in Norwich. Have to figure next season Morton will be a regular starter in the outfield.

Bottom 2nd, with 2 out Simmons drives in 2 runs with a double following a Padilla single, 3-0 UConn. After a Smith single, Stock follows with an rbi single, 4-0 UConn.

Chris Jones saying that Creighton is normally a very good fielding and a fundamentally sound team, but the fielding definitely has hurt them this inning.
