Nice win. Now let’s take this series! It was really nice of Creighton fans to run their mouths so much last spring that it makes beating the Bluejays feel even better.

Big win in the battle of the aces. Maybe the two top pitchers in the BE going head to head. The more UConn piles up conference wins the more they keep cementing an at-large bid.

-> Game Notes
  • UConn is 12-0 in games started by Austin Peterson this season.
  • Justin Willis is tied for fifth in single-season history with 12 saves this season and passed Caleb Wurster for ninth all-time with 13 career saves.
  • Casey Dana extended his hit streak to 12 games with his 19th multi-hit game.
  • Erik Stock has reached base safely in 20-straight games.

The fact that it was Sullivan up in the bullpen instead of Cooke in the 7th and/or 8th makes me think we’ve seen the last of Cooke out of the pen. He will be weekday starter the next two weeks and barring an emergency need to pitch earlier will be the #4 starter in the post-season. That would mean Chudoba is available in the pen going forward.

-> Peterson picked up his ninth win of the season, moving him into a tie for the most in the nation with Campbell’s Thomas Harrington. Peterson is now 16-1 in two seasons with UConn. He began his career at Purdue and had success in the Boilermakers’ bullpen. He made 25 appearances as a freshman, going 1-5, 4.50, 1 SV with 49 strikeouts in 48 innings. Peterson transferred to Wabash Valley Community College before bouncing back to Division I with the Huskies last season. He put up striking numbers in 2021, going 7-1, 2.58 with 82 strikeouts and 21 walks. His numbers are eerily similar this year outside of his strikeouts bring up and his walk totals declining. He has allowed one more earned run in one more inning pitched after Friday’s start. But Peterson feels like he’s taken his game to another level this season after making some minor mechanical tweaks. <-

Top 1st, with 2 runners on base and 1 out, an rbi double brings in 2 runs for Creighton. The 2nd out is recorded when the batter is thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a triple.

Is it me or do the camera angles change when the home games are on CW20? They keep missing the hits to the right side. Doesn’t happen in other games.

Missing up high - just like his start vs Nova

Top 1st, with 2 outs after the 2 runs come in, Creighton loads the bases on 2 singles and a walk. Gallagher comes up with a strikeout to prevent further damage. 2-0 Creighton, Gallagher threw 35 pitches that inning.

Bottom 1st, Smith leads off with a single, but gets picked off. UConn with traffic on the bases this inning, gets runners on the corners with 2 outs. Huber comes up with an rbi single to make the score 2-1.
