Chris Jones broadcasting the game from the stands, so he is getting wet now.

Top 6th, a 1 out rbi single for Studley bringing in Simmons who had reached base on a walk, 6-2 UConn.

The unmatched dedicated from Jones today. Hopefully there’s a post game video with Penders to see if Jonesy is soaked

They could always do a post game interview back at the hotel, it's been done before every once in a while. I suspect it would be dry there.

Top 7th, a scoreless inning for the UConn offense, 6-2 UConn.

Bottom 7th, after a leadoff single, with 1 out Hyde throws out a stolen base attempt. A 2 out solo homer off of Ellisen, 6-3 UConn going to the top of the 8th.

Top 8th, Smith with a leadoff single, Simmons follows with his first hit since his return to the lineup from being hurt to put runners on the corners with no out. Freeberger with a no out sac fly, 7-3 UConn.

Chris Jones says the rain has stopped for the moment, it is not even misting.

I would give someone other than Fogell / Willis / Afthim the ball here with a relatively comfortable lead, but go to Fogell quickly in case of trouble. Maybe Dom?

Tom back out there and records a quick out. That works too.

Bottom 8th, after a 1 out single, Ellisen comes out of the game (nice job). Devin Kirby takes the mound.

Kirby's ERA isn't pretty (just under 5), but the underlying metrics suggest he might be a solid midinning guy. In 34 innings pitched, he has 35 strikeouts and only 7 walks. I trust Fogell, Afthim and Willis more, but I can see why Penders trusts him.

Last yr he was lights out for a while while giving us multiple innings. When he has a bad outing, it isn't pretty. He is a key multi inning piece moving forward with Ellison.

Top 9th, with 2 out, Daniels pinch hits for Hyde, UConn offense goes down in order. Garbowski comes in at the catcher spot. 7-3 UConn.

Penders won't be happy with 10 strikeouts against some underwhelming pitching.

Kirby gives up two singles to start the inning (one seeing-eye, one line drive). UConn immediately turns a double play afterwards. Kirby pitching to contact, which is a good strategy up by 4 runs.

Dalena with a great catch to secure the win!

Bottom 9th, Villanova gets the first 2 batters on base with singles. Kirby gets a double play and a pop out, a great catch by Dalena. UConn gets the 7-3 win.
