Simmons walks, and Freeberger cashes him in with an RBI double to give UConn a 1-0 lead.

UConn's offense has been good all year but often doesn't do much in the first inning for some reason. It's nice to see a good start today.
 
I love recruiting D-3 transfers. Broadhurst, Studley, Tammaro etc are studs.
 
Top 1st, Broadhurst flies out, and Studley attempts to tag up, but leaves 2B too early. 2-0 UConn.

It is not raining at the moment. From what I saw on the radar, it looks like they should get this game in. Tomorrow is another question, but getting 2 games in is certainly better then none.
 
Nice start for Quigley, as he notches a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

Also, this is a home series for Xavier, so this is not going to help them in their drive to get an at large bid to the NCAA tournament.
 
By the way, let's not discount Creighton. They came into today 7-3 in the Big East.

Bottom 4th, Villanova with back to back singles to leadoff the inning. S. Quigley gets out of the inning with the help of a double play. 5-0 UConn.
 
Top 5th, Smith with a leadoff walk, but is thrown out trying to steal, a real rarity for him this season. I believe Chris Jones said that it is the 3rd time he has been caught stealing this season, and he has a bunch of stolen bases. Scoreless inning for the UConn offense. 5-0 UConn.

Funny, first game went slow, this game is moving along at a good speed.
 
Quiggers is throwing first pitch strikes to almost every batter. It's the main reason IMO he has been so dominant today.
