Azzi had UCLA as a finalist, Sarah Strong had SC as a finalist ... I'm certainly glad our coaches didn't lose interest in them.

Perhaps just a friendly suggestion, don't follow any transfer portal threads either because it's virtually impossible for it to not be leaked which schools a transfer is considering if she's known to be any good.

Sarah did not have SC in her finalist. It was duke and UNC

To some in the portal, the NIL $$$ is a big deal. To others, the program culture, the opportunity to grow and develop, not only as a player, but as a person is more important.

I have no idea what Serah thinks. I have no idea what her support system thinks. But I like are chances.

A year at LSU certainly means more money while a year at UConn means a lifetime of opportunities. Her choice. Look at all our former players in coaching, television, executive positions in basketball, etc.
Going to UConn doesn't guarantee anything. She would still need to earn those opportunities. Not to mention, she's studying nursing which doesn't tie into the roles you've noted above.

True, however Northam is a well known reporter who covers the ACC women's game. He also has been pretty accurate on coaching hires that have happened this season. His credibility is higher to me in comparison to a faceless poster on social media. (With all due respect to Skim Milkey ;))
Didn't mean to cast any aspersions on Northam's credibility. I agree that he's on the reliable end of the spectrum! (I was responding to a post that I no longer see, so the context is missing.) I was just suggesting that Northam's sources weren't necessarily Serah and her family/representatives but could be others in the know.

Gotcha. Appreciate the clarification.

Wow, that’s an interesting (and disparate) list. It’s two-on-one in several different categories.

Two South, one North

Two coaches with championships, one without

Two land-grant, two flagship (UConn’s both)

It certainly appears that the decision will come down to just what she’s looking for. Is it playing time, great coach, best academic fit, nurturing environment . . . ?
UConn, LSU and North Carolina all have highly rated nursing schools, which is Serah’s major.

UConn's deal is you get to play for the greatest coach in the history of the game and are guaranteed to go to the final four. As an aspiring professional basketball player, that would seem like a pretty good bargain.
The other thing UConn has going for it is the almost universal respect coaches in the W have for UConn players in terms of their readiness for the pro game. I have heard numerous W coaches speak highly of players who came through Geno’s system.

Sure, it may not matter that much if she’s looking for the most money, but if she is focused on winning a championship, improving her game and being best prepared for a pro career while playing on what is likely the most talented team in the country, then her choice is clear. Come to UConn and become a Husky!

Aren’t all 3 the flagship universities in their states?

The fact that LSU just lost its front court opens up a lot of playing time.
I’d assumed that LSU Agriculture and Mechanical was strictly land grant and University of Louisiana was flagship.

I’m open to being corrected.

If the reports are correct that she is contemplating both LSU and UCONN it's hard to imagine culture tops her list. The two programs couldn't be further apart in that regard.

The whole thing is pretty mysterious at this stage. Not sure that's a good thing.
As I understand it (very loosely, so don't quote me)) this might start to become more public under the proposed new guidelines (releasing any day now). Apparently, nebulous "NIL" goes away (actual NIL stays, but must be approved) and fixed direct payments go through the school itself. As state employees, how much each player makes would become obtainable information (isn't that going to be fun?).

I trust that Geno and his staff are doing everything they can to bring in complimentary pieces to round out next year’s team. They know better than any of us the growth expected in each of the current group and therefore what is needed from any transfers in.

All of us are screaming that defense wins games and that our bigs are not ready for prime time yet, and that Serah Williams has been on the Big 10 All-Defensive team as well as Big 10 First Team years in a row. So to us the answer is obvious. But let’s see what Geno has up his sleeve for us.

I’ve already locked two Serah threads for stray too far off topic. Please start a new thread to discuss NIL and let this thread be about Serah

UConn has an excellent nursing program.

All three are flagship universities :)

Well aware that Marissa is no longer with the school but just maybe she will voice her opinion to influence Serah that UConn is a better choice.
Or a worse one. We don’t know. Marissa didn’t have the best relationship with all her players so it could be she has no or negative influence. We don’t know.

If she's studying nursing that's a positive check for UConn. They have a very good program or so I've read.
Heather Buck serving us well as a ER nurse at the children's hospital in Hartford. Maybe did not match up with all Americans.
All American human, to understand her role in the game and her life.
If she want's the best coaching and opportunities UConn should be a very serious consideration.

It’s time for tea leaf reading:
  • Serah is following both Azzi & KK
  • Marisa’s potential influence on Serah’s decision should not be underestimated.
Good point on Marisa. Didn’t even occur to me….
