What is going on with Jayden Ross

We need a defender against 1-4 taller shooters. Period. With all the shooting and offense we have we can afford to have an elite defender off the bench who can come in when needed to shut down elite taller shooters. Looking backward we had both Castle and Andre Jackson before him who were...

What is going on with Jayden Ross

...Johnson well the one three he took while Ross was covering was challenged and he missed it. Ross is our best hope on this roster to cover big wings like Johnson. Diarra did the best that could be done covering a player clearly at least 4” talller. Johnson acted like he was not there on the...

...all the tools to be a really good player. Someone here once said that he could be like an RJ Luis type player and I love that comparison. Wiry wing that can get out and run, score, and defend. Exchange some of RJ's overall scoring ability for Ross' higher 3P potential Unfortunately I think...

What is going on with Jayden Ross

...getting all sorts of playing time last year. Hopefully the game slows down for Ross sooner rather than later because I think we’re going to need him to become a poor man’s Castle to achieve what we hope this season. Expecting Diarra to shut down a wing 4 inches taller than him isn’t ideal.

...efficiency on the defensive end has improved as his minutes have lessened thanks to the improvement of his fellow frontcourt mates. Even following the graduation of Anton Watson, the 54th pick in the 2024 Draft, Gonzaga’s frontcourt rotation is better this year because Few is less reliant on...

We have more than enough in the wings to beat Notre Dame without Azzi.

    Our bigs

Thought McNeeley did a great job as an occasional secondary ball-handler and helping to get the ball over half court in the Texas game. Deferring less and initiating more. Even though his point total was modest for him- His D and rebounding -when combined with his floor game (including some nice...

    Our bigs

Point guard play makes a big difference. Diarra is starting to play much better. Karaban, McNeeley and Stewart also have good passing and vision. The other guards and wings don't seem to have natural passing ability but just improving within the offensive system should continue to help.

UConn vs Texas Post Game Thread...

The problem is Mahaney is having issues handling the ball under pressure and isn't really allow the offense to move the ball. When Diarra is in the offense moves a lot crisper.

UConn vs Texas Post Game Thread...

You don’t need a pure point guard in Hurley’s offense, you just need two guards and a wing that make quick reads in the half court. Calhoun’s offense, with its emphasis on speed and transition, demanded a really strong traditional point guard.

...0 for whatever but she read the room. She understands the game on a deeper level than a lot of us. It is not always about her. That pass on the wing to Azzi, was a thing of beauty. But Paige understood the game and let the others shine. We all know Paige is going to bounce back. It is Paige...

Alex in, Nowell out for Texas game

It probably does, and that stinks. I’m trying to extract and manifest a positive here, and I’m thinking that maybe with Aidan flapping his wings against Baylor, that he can relax and not worry about minutes with Nowell out and just play hoops without weight on his shoulders and could emerge in...

Other teams have won championships without a player of Paige's caliber, so why can't UCONN? For example, the last team to beat Iowa/Clark was led by Azzi.

While I of course agree that Paige is irreplaceable, I must disagree (emphatically) that this team will be unable to dominate/win a championship without her! We will likely still be the most talented roster in the country! Especially, if Azzi remains healthy and returns to her top form, we will...

Yes, we may have that player on the roster now, given a little time, wisdom and coaching from CD and Geno a player with greatness may be immerging behind Paige. I also continue to sing the praises of Morgan, not a Sarah, but she could be a robin to Sarah's Batman.

There was no one in the wings to replace DT and then...

There is no one in the wings to replace her; PB is one of a kind, and this is her last go-around. We'll be good going forward but probably not good enough. So, when we debate...

Agree with your post. UConn is loaded at the guard/wing spots. The one thing that the Huskies need to put the team over the top, is for the front court players, not named Sarah, to develop into consistent performers against top opponents. Specifically, Ice & Jana have to become a handful...

    Notre Dame 2024-25 Season

For cutting her team to six, nobody appeared gassed. That being said, I wish KK Bransford was available. She played the point two years ago when OM went down and has all around skills and is physically strong. Westbeld was talking encouragement like she was Drew Bundini Brown to HH's Ali at the...

    Notre Dame 2024-25 Season

...once Westbeld and Karlen are back. Right now, she's form-fitting into a power forward for the sake of the team. When those two natural power forwards come back, she'll become the pain-the-in-lane wing that no one sees crashing from the weak side. Which is why precisely why Ivey recruited her. ;)

    December: Other NCAA Games

My take: Alpha dogs. Liam for now and a couple in the wings: Nowell and Abraham. If we want a killer team we need to get the bench involved. Reed has the potential to be on "Wanted" posters as well. The double center was a good look. Steering the traffic into that tandem might be a little...

...so far, Morgan looks like the clear 10-15 minute getter in future games) Speedwise, KK or Chen make the most sense. But Miles will be a massive passing threat. Neither of those two have the length to cut off Miles' passing lane or obscure her vision. Easy dish to the paint or to the wing for...

The weak side defender has to anticipate the skip pass or around the horn passes. It means you have to have serious lateral speed. Paige is as good as there is at that.

Expectations vs. Reality for the team...

Not sure I agree with the totality of this comment. Azzi, from what I hear is coming back next year so under any circumstance she would trump Ash and when you add in playing potential for next year, Ash's role is off the bench. Chen over KK is another story. Chen did have her best game of the...

    most overlooked play - Q

It's a concentration in many defensive assignments to sag off the weak side wing to help cover around the rim so the weak side defender with an assigned area guarding the lane to help stop drives to the basket when the ball is passed to the weak side has to run with arms raised high to try to...

I think he's adjusting to a role where he regularly got open looks from great ball movement and a lot of attention on Newton, Spencer and others (Hawkins before that) to a new role where he's the guy people are trying to take away. He's going to have to run around and move more. He can't be a...
