Sully with a strong performance! I'd go with Willis for multiple innings starting with the 9th, as he is fresh. Getting a run here would be nice.

Another situation with runners on 1st and 2nd and 2 outs. We've stranded 9 already. Let's get it Dana.

Top 9th, UConn trying to have a 2 out rally again loading up the bases, Stock singled, and Huber and Dana walked (first walks of the game by anybody).

Ferrer grounds out. Going to the bottom of the 9th tied at 3.

Sullivan on the mound to start the 9th. Willis warming up.

Simmons walks, so runners at 1st and 2nd with 1 out and a pitching change. Wild pitch moves up the runners. Smith walks to load the bases. Another pitching change.

Bushling sac fly makes it 4-3 with runners on the corners and 2 out. Stock with an RBI single, 5-3 UConn, going to the bottom of the 10th.

Bottom 10th, Willis get's the first 2 batters on strikeouts, however the first one reached base on a passed ball. Double play ends the game, UConn wins 5-3!! Sweep!

I know you never demand a sweep on the road but this is a program that anything less than a sweep would have been RPI killers. Not sure Penders will be pleased with timely hitting today but pitching did really nice job especially with a home plate ump who’s strike zone at odd times shrunk drastically.

We didn't make any errors minus the passed ball and threw strikes all day. The clutch hitting was a problem but we didn't play that badly. We just faced a desperate team on the road that gave it their all.

We did what we needed to do.

Gave up too many at bats without working the count. In past years, this one would have gotten away from us. Good and important win.

UConn offense ended up with 5 walks, I think they were all in the last 2 innings.

Exactly. Had we worked the at bats earlier in the game, we might have not had to pull it out late.

UConn pitching has been showing very good control so far in this early season. UConn pitchers have a total of 20 walks in 6 games. 11 of those walks were in the loss to Charlotte in the second game of the season. Take the walks to Charlotte out, and UConn pitching has given up 9 walks in 5 games. That's a terrific number in college ball.

Chris Brown had another rough offensive game today, going 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts. Brown now has 8 strikeouts in 21 at bats, and has yet to take a walk this season. He is hitting .142 on the season, and has had some horrendous days in the field with his defense as well. Of all the position players, there is no question in my mind that he is having the worst year so far of all of them. Here's hoping he will turn it around, but it will be interesting to see how far the coaching staff will go with him before they start giving more playing time to someone like Padilla. Have to say that there was some talk of Brown being a possible draft pick if he had a good year. It's safe to say that is not happening with his performance so far in the first two weekends of the season.

Ben Huber hasn't been doing well either, but at least he is willing to take a walk (he is second on the team in this category to David Smith) and he has been doing okay on defense. It would seem to me though that assuming he remains in the lineup, it would seem wise to drop Huber out of the cleanup spot until he starts hitting.
