Top 8th, with bases loaded and 1 out, Bushling with a sac fly to make it 9-4. Stock with a double drives in 2 more runs to make it 11-4 with 2 out.

Chris Jones says outfielder Zach Stephenson made this trip in place of freshman pitcher Tom Ellisen. Stephenson came off a suspension for violating team rules.

Bottom 8th, Cooke gives up a run off a couple of hits to make it 11-5 UConn going to the top of the 9th.

Freshman Jack Sullivan was warming up in the bullpen towards the end of that inning.

I love Ian’s strategy of throwing strikes. He gave up a couple hits and a run but forced them to earn everything in a game that is still a blowout.

11-5, top 9.

I would say it is more of an ability to throw strikes rather than a strategy. Many young pitchers just can't do that consistently. Bobby McBride is certainly an example of having control problems on the UConn pitching staff.

Well that turned out great. I regret to say the only part of the game I actually followed live was the bottom of the 2nd

Guess we’ll have to see how tomorrow goes. May be a sad day of not watching baseball if the mojo demands it.

1 walk given up by the UConn pitching staff tonight. Cooke is probably done for the weekend, but the rest of the bullpen is rested.
Very good job by Austin and Cooke. I believe Cooke started out 3-0 on the first batter that he faced and battled back.

Although the defense was shaky at times, the baserunning looked pretty good. Huber and Dana showed good baserunning in the fifth.

Always look forward to these postgame interviews. Coach Penders admits that the defensive play needs to improve, but does point out that UConn played much better in the field after all the misplays in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

Coach Penders can't remember the last time in a game where UConn pitching did not give up a walk or hit a batter, but it happened last night.
