These threads remind me of this:
Man in Black: All right. Where is the poison? The battle of wits has begun. It ends when you decide and we both drink, and find out who is right... and who is dead.
Vizzini: But it's so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemy's? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
Man in Black: You've made your decision then?
Vizzini: Not remotely. Because iocane comes from Australia, as everyone knows, and Australia is entirely peopled with criminals, and criminals are used to having people not trust them, as you are not trusted by me, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you.
Man in Black: Truly, you have a dizzying intellect.
Vizzini: Wait till I get going! Now, where was I?
Man in Black: Australia.
Vizzini: Yes, Australia. And you must have suspected I would have known the powder's origin, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
Man in Black: You're just stalling now.
Vizzini: You'd like to think that, wouldn't you? You've beaten my giant, which means you're exceptionally strong, so you could've put the poison in your own goblet, trusting on your strength to save you, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But, you've also bested my Spaniard, which means you must have studied, and in studying you must have learned that man is mortal, so you would have put the poison as far from yourself as possible, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
Man in Black: You're trying to trick me into giving away something. It won't work.
Vizzini: IT HAS WORKED! YOU'VE GIVEN EVERYTHING AWAY! I KNOW WHERE THE POISON IS!
Man in Black: Then make your choice.
Vizzini: I will, and I choose - What in the world can that be?

If KO leaves, which will be disheartening to say the least. There is a guy we can go out and get

How many times have NBA trades, signings, draft picks and coaching negotiations had anonymous sources that are just dead wrong? It's almost as unreliable as recruiting news. Ollie has said he's at UConn and wants to stay at UConn but won't rule out the NBA in the future. Hamilton has said Ollie has told him he will be at UConn. UConn has said a contract is being negotiated (more or less). Ollie was out recruiting a week ago. Now maybe he does meet with the Lakers and maybe he even takes the job but everything tying him to the Lakers has been an unnamed source(s) or conjecture. I'm not sure Ollie can put out a stronger statement publicly while the negotiations are on going.

Until Ollie, UConn or the Lakers expressly say something, I wouldn't get too worried about it. It's just futile to bother worrying about unnamed sources.

What does that make you think of KO after he adamantly proclaimed "ten toes in" and "plant the seeds" in the national TV?

Well just because he planted the seeds doesn't mean he has to watch them grow! :D

If he really does leave, I think he'll take a lot of heat (and rightfully so) for leaving so soon after everything he's been preaching since he got the job.

If he comes back, then the man did a little posturing for a couple weeks and earned himself a few more bucks. More power to him.

...You have to sell your self to the highest bidder. It would be a disservice to your career, your family, and yourself not to do so. If your stock goes up, why not give it a shot. I won't hold it against him because honestly, it would be wrong for him not to make the move if they offer him a lot more. This is how our world works. Connecticut should make a good counter offer and stress the benefits and hopefully things go our way. If it doesn't, move on, hire another great coach and win a fifth national championship :)

Kevin Ollie surely made his mark, and we should all be grateful for what he has done. He made all the players believe, he revived a community and fan base full of uncertainty, and he help bring another national championship to Connecticut. Connecticut is at the forefront of the College basketball world right now. This won't change whether he stays or leave. We couldn't be in a better position!

Best of luck to him in whatever decision he makes and Warde Manuel should also make sure he makes the best decision to keep Connecticut at the top.

Forget about his pep talk "ten toes in" "planting seeds".... he already did all of that... he surely planted the seeds for success and he was definitely ten toes in with the rest of his players for the past two years. Situations change and we make adjustments accordingly

The best outcome here will be Ollie returns and then every UConn fan can recognize him for what he is -- a basketball coach. An excellent coach, a great ambassador for the university and a winner, but still a basketball coach.
He is not a savior, he is not necessarily a lifer, and he has no responsibility to pretend otherwise.
He said "ten toes in" and all that to inspire his players and, guess what, it worked. We're national champions. Who knows what comes next.
Stop pretending he belongs to you as fans. Just because Jim Calhoun made his life here doesn't mean everyone will.

This is why I love the man in my Avatar to death, and he never minces the words. The "not a penny back" youtube clip still is my all time favorite.

Alas, i guess it cannot be expected that every man is the same.

I guess I'm just concerned about DHam

We all can appreciate that concern but....

It is vital that our BB programs stay strong as we wait for our FB program to get on track, in terms of CR. We all know this and KO certainly knows this.

The last thing KO wants is for our BB program to go into a tailspin with his name attached to its failure. Do you think KO wants to be known as the man who let his alma mater go south because he wanted more money from the NBA?

I'll say it again. KO is a man of principle and his word means something. If he told DHam he is coming back, then I believe he's coming back.

Also....do you not think KO and JC had this conversation about KO coaching or not coaching in the NBA when JC put KO up for the job? There is just no way KO tells JC.... "My heart just told me the NBA is where I needed to be..."

There is no way KO goes to the NBA in the near term.

You are acting as if KO has left already, calm down and relax. The reports of him meeting with the Lakers aren't even accurate, let it play out before you have a panic attack.

The only way he is leaving is if they offer him ridiculous money (like $8MM a year type of crazy money). While that seems unlikely, it is not out of the question. The thinking is that if Ollie ends up in the NBA, Durant is likely to follow him wherever he goes. So while Ollie alone would not justify 'crazy money' on his own given his lack of coaching tenure...the fact that he may bring Durant along with him makes it a possibility. The Lakers would give well above the max contract to get Durant...but obviously cannot due to the salary cap and max contract terms. So if they put that money in Ollie's salary instead of in Durants contract, it may work for them anyway.

This scenario is not likely, but that is the only way I see Ollie leaving. If it is for a going-rate contract, he stays. If it is 'crazy money', he almost has to take it.

So, Ollie's gonna murder Warde and take over the whole UConn athletic department himself? Time to run to Twitter and report on what my source says!

I'm with you on feeling "no threat of him leaving", but I'm getting a sour taste in my mouth with how he's handling this. Much as I hate the Squid, he came right out and said "not now, not interested".

Instead of doing that and telling LA "thanks but no thanks", he's actually going out to meet with them. I'm disappointed no matter what Ollie's reasoning is. I could see if LA were to offer some ridiculous salary of maybe $6-8 million per year, but what I'm learning about Ollie is it's only 10 toes in if nothing better comes along.

I'm surprised at how many people on this board either work for themselves or don't know how one goes about getting a raise.

Calipari's statement was all show. A move to the NBA isn't something he's interested in and it is unlikely he'd get a big enough offer to bump his already considerable pay, so he gets to play it off as loyalty to his players, who probably aren't dumb enough to buy it, though it seems some on this board are.

Gurleyman- as always, thanks for the info. I hope the future article title in the Courant writes like this "Ollie at heart is always with Uconn Family".

Calhoun's dabbling/flirting with other jobs all happened in the pre-social media era, so it was kind of over and done with before it even hit the news. Ollie's is a little different - can't keep anything on the down low, since everyone Tweets everything.

Instead of second guessing/doubting KO or ourselves, why is no one pointing fingers at our AD? What's the ing hold-up? Just pay the man and focus on winning next nth NC Champions.

I just had a thought, just maybe KO is making him sweat, like what WM did to him. Would be sweet vengeance (although I doubt that's Ollie's character but its surely mine, hence the thought).

Vegas has him tied with (I think) Byron Scott as the leading candidates for the job.

Vegas casinos aren't in the business of losing money, right?

I don't think you can actually bet on this. They put lines out for stuff like the Acadamy Awards for entertainment purposes.
