Have a look at this "FromTheInside" post and see if you change your mind. I'd bet a six pack of decent beer if someone can do an IP trace (legally of course) it'll match HFD. He's borrowing credibility from another person's screenname. Note the csnbbs FTI user account opened this month, coincidentally when HFD disappeared from here (whether by choice or by force I don't know).
damn you....

So..... UConn is essentially worthless to ESPN but they are worth 30 million to a regional sports channel on the strength of their women's bball viewership?

This is pure fantasy. Entertaining though.

But...didn't Louisville succeed in overselling?
They had the Big12 openly fishing for them. We had a pipe dream of the B1G fishing for us. Which one worked?

Anyway I was responding to CL82 and businesslawyer who were talking about using HFD/FTI's imaginary SNY deal to make our pitch to Pac12 and SEC schools for a scheduling arrangement. If that imaginary SNY deal doesn't exist and doesn't have a realistic chance of existing in the future, those Pac12 and SEC schools are smart enough to know how to make a phone call and find that out for themselves.

Maybe there is a non-zero chance that kind of deal could happen. Maybe UConn is trying to set it up and HFD heard about it. But my hunch is that it's pretty remote and HFD/FTI is making the whole thing up to get the yard riled up and frothing at the mouths. Seems to have worked.

As a side note, what the hell happened to HFD?

I check the site multiple (ok, dozens) of times every day, but I must have missed it?

You may be on to something. The line that has.........Ecu to sec..... is his type of crazy and missing the caps on SEC.

Uh, no, I don't and also I do not believe that Swofford or Delaney lurk on the Boneyard waiting for CR ideas. I also don't believe that any change of conference could take place in the next hour or so. I figured I'd get rid of those equally implausible scenarios at the same time so you would feel the need to profer them and then shoot them down.

I believe, but do not know, that B1G is very well aware of our value as I expect that we would be included in preliminary studies of available properties out there. (I'm not so sure about the ACC, as it seems that the LV pick up was reactionary rather than strategic.)

So let me restate my point not using shorthand. I think it is possible that UConn is pursuing a Independent strategy which will position the university to be included in the proposed Div 4 by either being independent or by making UConn as independent so unattractive to our two target conferences that it will change their analysis of our participation in their conferences and result in offer (and though it pains me to actually have to add this to the text) after doing their due dilligence, of course.

Better?

Anything is possible. If I had to guess, I think it's more likely that the combination of the top end of the American and MWC, which almost happened last year, does happen, because now Boise and SD State and a few others would need to leave the MWC, if not for TV than just so the top American schools and the top MWC schools have people willing to commit to spending the money to make the jump. What would be ideal would be if, as part of the new D4, you could play D4 football as a conference even if the members belonged to other conferences for other sports.

Fantasy I agree with.

But really, who left the cellar door open? I hate when Boston College University people poke out of the cellar. They're like Whac-A-Moles.

Addendum - if the Power 5 go beyond just changing the governance / structure / voting rules of the NCAA and form a new subdivision with some number of other schools who can support 22 varsity sports and some number of $$$ for stipends, then yes I think it is very realistic that UConn will look at any and all scenarios to be included with whatever other major non-power 5 sports schools (Cincy, Boise, etc) are allowed to make the jump, including independence. Not clear yet if that is what's going to happen.

My most plausible guess is he went to UConn to build Ron Mallett's time machine. With the ultimate goal of changing the timeline to eliminate Hitler and capitalization, and get us in a better conference. God speed HFD... god speed.

My other thought about this is does the person who brought us this story, Penfield, have any link to HFD?

Do we have a co conspirator? Just askin'.

To put it bluntly, I don't believe a single thing he said is true, or actually happening, or will ever actually happen. It's a nice five minute fantasy, but nothing more.

He put a lot of effort into the fantasy though, didn't he? :)

Well, he says "There is also already talk that Providence and UConn will play every 3rd game at the Casinos as a neutral site among other things." It has already come out that UConn is negotiating with the Mohegan Sun to play some games there.

Didn't put that together that ND's independent status if there is a split becomes a bit of a point of contention. Could be an opening for more than a few. Whether this poster is a crock of or not, that point is a fact that would have to be dealt with. I'd expect it to go beyond just BYU, but to UConn, Boise, Cincinnati, USF, and basically anyone with a sniff of a legitimate athletics department. I'm sure ECU will apply and cc their emailed "application" to every media outlet on the east coast.

Come on now, do people really think HFD could come up with that plan? It's really good. Good for UConn, good for SNY. PAC wanted in the NYC market, so that piece makes sense at some level. SEC? Probably worthwhile in bball but not so much in FB. Wasn't it Florida that hadn't played OOC out of Fl since 1990 against Cuse? Although Bama took a trip to PSU, so it's not impossible but the venue needs to be bigger. It makes sense for the old BE schools - who get a (mostly local) marquee game on their schedule annually. The alliance between BYU/Cincy/BSU makes sense as well as witnessed by recently announced FB scheduling. The money seems to be a stretch, but realistically SNY needs UConn to be a power, and a power school needs a big budget - especially for an independent.

Where the deal makes the most sense is that it Could do two key things - 1. worry the B1G and ACC about losing market share in NYC to UConn and its cohorts and 2. Cause P5 to push back on ND(or any school's) independence in D4 - and ND in a conference is good for UConn.

I don't care whether it's true. It's intriguing and if we could pull most of that off and get $10-15 m per year, cya AAC. We know that there is nothing compelling holding us in the AAC, aside from conference games against schools that for the most part we just don't fit in with.

Sent the link to every blogger on ESPn though they are not to credible. Wont send it to Courant writers since they are to busy doing nothing to help.

Someone needs to copy the post and send it to 2 credible journalists that will actually read it and see what they say.

If they ever stop laughing and respond we will get a pro's feeling on it.

I feel like we are all in the twilight zone and this is season 10, episode 5.

Again, there are too many places for leaks on this one. This guy just happens to be the one in the know? Not buying it.

Pretty sure it's HFD but it will give the writers a few laughs.
