I'm not sure I agree. We don't know if Vital is going to be able to give us anything day one. It's far from a guarantee that Gilbert will be any good as a freshman, plus, he seems to have had recurring shoulder problems that could crop up again. I wouldn't be shocked to see Purvis play the majority of his minutes - his high-leverage minutes, anyway - at the three. If it turns out that three of our best five are guards, you're looking at very little depth at that position.

FYI 'Rique is having the shoulder surgery so it doesn't happen again. It shouldn't be an issue (at least with that shoulder) if he takes time with rehab.

At one point he mentioned that he was going to play in the ACC, and it seems that was around the time we backed off on him.

Alright. My patience is worn thin. It is August 15 and we have absolutely no one for 2017.
I need something. A commit, a strong lean, Big 12 news that is good. I realize the world is not falling in. But I am.
I'll take a verbal that disappears in a month.
I'm tired of talking about air conditioners, A-Rod and homeless baseball teams. I'm tired of arguments about Amida and women's basketball.

I'm verbally committing to the University of Connecticut, thanks to Husky Nation and especially the Boneyard for taking me into their family. Well some may not in the BY but who needs them. I'm going to work hard to lose 50 lbs and grow 6 inches over the winter in my senior years, then I can come in and help any KO wants me too. Oldest water boy, 3 point specialist (in practice with no one on me), teaching guys to box out because I know some don't know how. Any way this verbal is dedicated to that old SOB David76 as he needs a fix.

I wonder what the research says (@tcf15) when we get a great (big) class like 2016, how we follow it up. It is true that Ollie has been getting his main guy early on the past three years :hamilton, adams, gilbert were all signed before this point, respective to their class years. There are a ton of irons in the fire, but franky there are a ton of holes in the depth chart when purvis, facey, brimah and possibly larrier leave.

I know it's easy to want guys to commit but I feel like with this class I feel like once it starts it'll be a rush of commits. There's examples with a ton of players, but take Tremont Waters, say he decided he wants to go here (or Indiana which seems possible) after Duke and Kentucky focused on Green and Young. But he's not gonna close the door on Duke/UK until he has to. So Green commits to Duke and all of a sudden Young goes to UK, Waters to IU and MAL here in the next week afterwards. Same can be said for all of the wings waiting to see where Diallo ends up before deciding to come here or elsewhere.

I'd be a lot more worried if players were committing to other schools and we still had nobody. Can't fault a guy for waiting to make sure he'll get playing time after there have been plenty of cases of schools not letting kids transfer without a huge hassle. Don't think KO would do that if someone committed and wanted to leave after we got a guy like Diallo, but I'm far from worried yet

Kentucky, Duke, and Kansas don't have anybody committed for 2017, either. Not saying we're Kentucky, Duke, or Kansas, but if we were, this is what it looks like this time of year. Only 7 or 8 of the top 40-50 kids are committed - if you're going all in for major talent, stretches of uncomfortable waiting are inevitable.

I look at it this way: we have four 4-star kids committed for 2016 in Gilbert, Durham, Jackson, and Diarra, in addition to rising sophomores Adams and Enoch. 4-star kids tend to stay three or four years, so if the 4-star kids in 2017 aren't demonstrably better than the ones we have signed, it makes little sense compile a second straight heavy class. For one, it risks redundancy, and secondly, it potentially creates logjams/chemistry problems. Doling out 2017 ships to 4-star kids simply wouldn't be an efficient use of assets, practically speaking (now, we do have needs, and if there is a kid you really like, you grab him; but my hunch is that if Ollie was in love with the 72nd ranked player in the country, he'd have him).

Unless you're Kentucky or Duke, you're looking to mend traditional team building - bringing in group of diverse players expected to form the nucleus of the next 3-4 years - with the type of gold mining that elevates the overall talent of the roster (Bamba, Richards, Diallo). Provided the nucleus is (hopefully) in place, it makes sense to recruit in a manner more akin to Kentucky or Duke this year.

I am glad to have Mau on board for 17. I only regret he will miss the chance to play with Brimah before he graduates.

I'm afraid I will have to de-committ. They want me to start running immediately and stop playing golf (and no cold ones). They're too worried about me being ready and since I have a few more outings left before October practice I can't promise I can do that. Oh and to boot, unlike UNC they actually want me to go to class? I'm out, sorry Dave.

This is what happens when you don't have Bunkey to close the deal. Weren't that impressed by the Miller tour?

Get some popcorn and cold beer or beverage of choice - Next Weekend it Finally Starts
Aug 26th - 9/1 Hamidou Diallo will be a 2016 surprise or he won't be
Aug 26th - 28th Paul Scruggs Official Visit (might a good visit also influence Kris Wilkes to schedule visit?)
Sept 3rd - Tyler Polley Official Visit that I hope results in a Sept commitment to get the class started
Sept 8th - 10th MAL Official Visit that should lead to a 2 person class by the end of Sept (MAL& Polley)
Sept teens - open?
Sept 23rd - 25th open?
Sept 27th - Josh Carlton Official Visit (a Tues?) (A commitment from him would suggest not getting top C targets?)

The Boneyard needs volunteers to set up a network of surveillance cameras and microphones strategically placed. College Boneyarders need to wear a wire at all times in case of random contact with recruits. We need to know who is smiling, engaged, and enthusiastic, and who is going through the motions with attention wandering. Don't forget to hang on every word or gesture. Send in our top mind readers to sleuth. Help David 76 survive the drought.

I remember seeing Enoch the weekend of his official at the football game. A recruit coming and seeing what should be a sell out crowd September 17th vs UVA or 24th vs Cuse would give a recruit a good gist of the school spirit embodied by the husky faithful.

Assume it's probably too last minute now, but I know Wilkes said he wants to visit all 5 finalists. Would have been nice to have him come next weekend the same weekend as Scruggs

Looks like someone needs to buy Bunkey a hotel room at Nathan Hale for a month.
