If nothing else we should really evaluate our choice for OC. GDL lite isn't going to cut it in a conference with those two guys as well as the offenses at Cincinnati, ECU, and UCF.

Diaco better realize, that despite solid defense, you better have the ability to score in bunches to win in this league.

Hard to do when your elusive RB fumbles at key times and your QB of the future has the look of a deer in the headlights and cant throw between the numbers, of the intended receiver.

You can beat these high scoring teams when you use ball control - time of possession game. With that said it would be nice to be able to score in bunches but you can win without scoring in bunches. I dont see us scoring in bunches in the near future and although we havent seen the offense Diaco wants to run - if it is similar to what ND runs then our impressive receivers could come into play - but to get them open you need to start running the ball better and that will open up the passing game.

Look, we need to get over that Newsome, as a true freshman had fumble issues. He clearly wasn't ready for the pounding of FBS football at fairly high level requires. He was 170lb true freshman IMO, he should have been redshirted so he could put on about 10lbs of muscle. On offense, he is the only player besides Foxx that showed he could take a handoff or a short pass and turn it into a long touchdown. You need that in football. As for Boyle, I'll be stunned if he wins the job. Too indecisive, showed no touch, and he has become terrified to throw ints and as a result if a defender is anywhere near a WR refuses to throw a catchable ball. I hope to hell he improves, but the team showed poor body language with him in there. WRs were barely running their routes.

More than anything I think the staff needs to come up with an effective way to utilize the talents of both Newsome and Ron Johnson at the same time.

Pitt should bring back the Stache. At least he was able to recruit and constantly win 9 seasons.

It really is amazing that defensive coaches are not getting hired as HC.

Here is what I worry about...Diaco is going to run the most un-sexy program in football. Even his defense is boring...bend don't break. No blitzing. Diaco may be a better DC than Don Brown, but Brown's D was fun to watch. Combining bend don't break D with a run oriented offense...and this team will not be exciting. The only way this team will be exciting will be to run those boring schemes and win many games.

I believe that WM knows that fans need to see an exciting product on the field...let's hope between WM and BD they look around and see all these offensive coaches getting hired and they realize that this team MUST show an offensive game in 2015. I am not sure if Cummings is the guy to deliver that...but WMs and BDs reputation is on the line on how this team looks in 2015.

If they go 5-7 or 6-6 and are boring as hell to watch...that may not be good enough. Winning games 10-7 over Temple isn't going to win the fans back. Going 5-7 or 6-6 and winning games with an exciting offense and aggressive defense WOULD win fans over. Beating Temple 37-31 would be fun to watch and would give fans good entertainment and hope for the future.

The program is desperate and style points matter. Let's hope the AD and HC understand that.

I mean, yeah why not, they were playing for the national title game two seasons ago. Anyone could come in replicate that.
It is surprising how many ND fans are hoping he takes an NFL job

Pitt has a clue with when it comes to finding a HC... Schiano grew with his stint in the NFL... would be a good hire for them...

or it could be a lousy hire for PITT. IMO RU has improved without Schiano and he was a huge flop in the NFL.

Out here in Pittsburgh, it's a major celebration, not because of Chryst's departure, but because Chryst's departure meant the end of Steve Pederson as AD. Boosters hate the guy and alumni support has gone way down in recent years. A possibility Wanny comes back as AD.

Pitt fans are an odd bunch though when it comes to recommending coaches. A radio poll was conducted last weekend and the winner was a guy who's run a highly successful AAAA high school football program for years. Pitt hates Tom Bradley because of being Paterno's boy, although he could easily recruit against Franklin. I've heard Schiano mentioned and even Edsall, but not Moorhead. Pitt alumni seem to think they're still in the 80s and a national powerhouse and will not eagerly accept a coach from a non-P5 conference. But whomever gets the job inherits Connor, Boyd and Voytik, which ain't a bad start.

Hoops fans are concerned that without Pederson's protection, Dixon might be on a short leash if he can't deliver an EE or FF appearance in next year or two.

How in the world can you make the case that RU has improved since Schiano left?
They did win a share of the conference title after he left. Never did that when he was there. That is tangible.

New Buffalo Coach won his 6th D3 National Championship tonight:

@coachingsearch: Lance Leipold will head to Buffalo with a career record of 109-6 with six national titles in eight years from Wisconsin-Whitewater.

@FootballScoop: Leipold has as many national championships as he does career losses. Incredible.

Interested to see how that crazy kind of success translates @ D1 level.

If he has any kind of success at Buffalo, he'll be gone in 3 years to a B1G team.
