It’s great to tell them the truth, and it’s also great to have kids who are self aware, understand their strengths, limitations, and have a willingness to work.

Some weren’t the most enthusiastic about Ross initially, but he’s exactly the kind of kid you want when building a team it seems. Good enough to develop & play at this level, while also not scaring off maybe more polished players. Not a lot of 4 star kids would handle this kind of commitment and recruitment with as much grace as he has.

I much prefer a high potential guy that is going to ride the bench like we've gotten in these Euros and Ross than someone like we've had recently. Some timid guard who can hold down the fort has their use... but I prefer by far some big shooter or someone physically undeveloped with a huge frame. Plenty of those types never get good enough to play at all... but when you hit the right one, you have a star.

Just got back from a round of golf to this awesome news!! Because of the distance between Storrs and Pacific Northwest .. I didn't see this happening as quickly as it did due to needing to convince family of the interest in UConn.. Apparently not an issue.

Great job by staff to close on another priority target.

I will say this about Jaylin.. It takes onions to make a commitment about a school across the country from family and friends. Speaks volumes about JS and his new teammates/coaches to make him feel comfortable in Storrs.

One more domino ??

Stewart is a good player. This is a good get for Hurley and his staff.

And to to think that some of you doubted the Chips Ahoy/Lay’s/Sprite approach.

Whenever Stewart scores one half of the arena should yell "Chips" and the other half responds with "Ahoy". Really needle those casual fans who don't like UConn's approach to tailoring snacks to each individual recruit.

I'm feeling more '24-'25:

2025San AntonioAlamodomeApril 5 & 7University of Texas at San Antonio/University of Incarnate Word

Oh, and that will be #6; #5 is obviously going to be our surprise run this season:

2023HoustonNRG StadiumApril 1 & 3Rice University/University of Houston/Houston Baptist/Texas Southern University
PS: Maui Invitational November 2024.

Just sayin'...

Assume all the guys we think can go (Newton/Alleyne/Andre/Hawkins/Sanogo), will go. That’s a terrifying thought. Most of your production all gone in one offseason. That could ruin a team.

We’ll come back with:
PG - Stephon Castle/Hassan Diarra
SG - Solomon Ball
SF - Jaylin Stewart/Jayden Ross
PF - Alex Karaban/Samson Johnson
C - Donovan Clingan

That’s before any other recruits (cough Singare cough) and before any potential transfers. Doesn’t even include the international guys we just picked up.

Wow.
This is a good problem to have. If we start sending 1 or more guys to the NBA each year our recruiting classes will look like this every single season.

It also will help make us the premier destination for the top transfers each year. You can point to a roster of NBA talent and say “you are the last piece of the puzzle to contend for a title.” It’s a great pitch

It’s not even a problem. That 2023 lineup assuming EVERYONE goes (unlikely) is already a damn good lineup on its own.

I’d love sending guys to the NBA every year. We’re starting to build a great story. If you’re a star, come in like Bouknight and you could be a lottery pick after 2 years. If you’re a transfer, come in and play your role like Tyrese and you can work your way into the draft.

We’re in a very good spot and no doubt it’ll translate to wins and long term recruiting success

This staff had a plan and it's all coming together. Keep bringing in quality players to replace the quality players leaving after having their value added while here. Isaiah Whaley just signed an NBA conract. Nobody saw that coming when he arrived.
