UConn Football Extends Offer to Juwann Winfree

The Fansided150 blog is reporting that Juwann Winfree has received a scholarship offer from UConn. Winfree, a 6’2″, 180 pound Athlete from Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood NJ has received multiple offers. He appears to be leaning towards Maryland although things can change. A December 2012 article in the NewJerseyOnline.com web site had Rutgers, Pitt and West Virginia leading for him while a March 2013 article on the Scarlet Nation blog said Winfree wanted to play in the SEC.

Winfree is a consensus three-star athlete who plays cornerback, wide receiver and kick returner. Rutgers is recruiting him as a defensive player although his high school coach feels that he will be a receiver in college. Coach Barry Harris told the Bergen Record:

“I think he’s going to be a good wide receiver in college,” Dwight Morrow coach Barry Harris said. “He’s really smart and explosive with the football.

“He runs good routes, and runs like a deer. He has long arms, and he catches the ball with his hands. I’ve never seen him catch a pass against his chest.”
