Three Names on UConn Football’s Recruiting Radar

The Newark Star Ledger is reporting that UConn has expressed interest in two New Jersey players; Michael Dogbe, a 6’3, 225 lb OLB from Morris Plains NJ and 5’11”, 180 lb athlete Donte Strickland from Monmouth Junction NJ and has extended a scholarship offer to a third player, 5’11”, 170 lb wide receiver from Elkton MD, Freddy Canteen. Dogbe and Canteen are juniors while Strickland is a sophomore

Dogbe’s recruiting had been quiet until recently and he has picked up his first offer, from Temple. His performances at football camps recently have sparked interest from a number of schools including UConn, Rutgers, Florida, Old Dominion and Villanova. Dogbe told Owls247 that those schools have expressed “strong interest” and that he would be visiting all of them. From what Dogbe told the Newark Star Ledger, he may be leaning towards the home town team however other sites have mentioned how articulate and well-mannered the young man is, so it’s hard to know how much to read into those comments.

The youngest player of the three, Strickland is still in the early stages of his recruitment. The Star Ledger reports that Rutgers has offered and that other schools, including UConn, are keeping track of the talented young players. hudl.com has a highlight video of Strickland.

Canteen is the most highly recruited player of the three. He’s ranked as the #35 receiver by Rivals. UConn has offered a scholarship as have Maryland, Temple, Rutgers and Hawaii. Tennessee, West Virginia and Rutgers appear to be his top three at this point.
