Huskies Look to Build Off Friday Night
|UConn will take the court in just under ninety minutes in pursuit of a spot in the American Athletic Conference title game, whose winner will receive the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA’s. But first, there are the semifinals against the second seed here in Hartford, Tulsa.
The two have split the season series, first in Oklahoma, an 8-point UConn loss and then here at the XL Center, a 70-45 Huskies win. It will be the third game in as many days for UConn, but that’s something that does not have them worried.
“That’s what why we have the hardest conditioning in America,” Boatright said as head coach Kevin Ollie laughed. “If you were there in the preseason, you understand why we can play like this. Being here with this crowd and with our pre-season, I’m sure we’re going to be all right. We’re warriors.”
In UConn’s win here in February, Boatright (23), Rodney Purvis (17) and Daniel Hamilton (11) all scored in double figures, really the first time the offense got going this season. The Huskies held Tulsa to just 17-points in the first half, while also scoring 44 in the second.
In January’s loss, Boat was held to just 8-points, as Hamilton (16), Terrence Samuel (12) and Amida Brimah (10) picked up the offensive slack for the Huskies co-captain, whose explosiveness was limited due to injury.
Tip for the semifinal matchup will be 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first semifinal between Temple and SMU, which is currently at the half with the Owls leading the top seed, 28-26.
While waiting for the start of today’s game, major props to TCF15, who once again put out some stellar work since last night’s last second win:
