Clarke Visiting UConn this Weekend

This upcoming weekend coach Ollie and his staff have two visitors taking their official visits to UConn. 2015 SF Chris Clarke and 2015 C Djery Baptiste will both be on campus in Storrs. I had the chance to catch up with Clarke to see what he thinks of UConn and what he’s expecting on the visit.

“I’m just going into it not expecting anything. Just going to have a great experience,” Clarke said about his upcoming trip to UConn. He also had this to say about his timeline, “I don’t know my timeline for committing but I have visits starting next month [September].” UConn is one of Clarke’s seven finalists along with Virginia Tech, Florida, Iowa State, Tennessee, Creighton, and Minnesota.

Coming into the summer UConn and Clarke had very little to no contact in the past. However, after performing very well in front of Kevin Ollie, Chris got his offer from UConn. Hours after the offer he had another excellent game with 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. At 6’6″ Clarke does the majority of his work on the offensive side inside the paint. He’s extremely skilled around the rim and has the strength to finish through and around bigs. Many people who saw him play this summer said he has one off the biggest motors of any player they saw throughout the summer and is a major high effort guy. Chris describes himself similarly saying, “I’m versatile on offense and defense, very smart, high IQ, great driver, and a winner.”

Despite the fact the he and the UConn coaches have only been talking for a couple months he describes his relationship with coach Ollie as, “Great.” For why UConn is a major option for Clarke he said UConn’s, “[A] winning program, has great tradition and great education.” Those seem to line up very nicely for UConn with what he mentioned as important factors in his decision, “Play style, education, and coaching.”

Coming into his visit this weekend UConn certainly seems to be in great shape with Chris Clarke. A very good visit can leave a big impression on Clarke heading into his other visits later this month. Look for reactions from him about the visit sometime next week.
