Youssouf Singare Going to be a secret weapon?

Singare has shown me particularly in open practices that he is ready to contribute. Attitude and skill set outstanding.
Chemistry is so important on a team and he is a big plus.
Johnson and Reed come off the bench . Danny likes to win.Give him a chance.

Starting seems a big stretch, but interesting view especially if you are regularly viewing practice. Kinda, WOW!?

Samson and tarris are good players but have holes in their game. Singare will get some opportunities and will shine. I expect a 3 man rotation with singare having an opportunity to earn significant minutes. All 3 have different skills that will shine in different game scenarios
Chances of a 3 man rotation, i’d put close to 0%

It will take an injury or one of the centers descending into Hurley’s doghouse for Singare to get significant playing time overall but he could possibly be a factor in a foul trouble game or 2.
I can see Dan playing 3 guys at the 5. Keep them all running.

URI rotations would suggest no. My view here is a successful season from Singare is being good enough to turn to when there’s foul trouble, instead of having to roll out the Karaban at the five lineup. If he can provide competent defense and five fouls in that situation, he’s done his job well.

i guess once we figured out that samson ostill has issues fouling, we have to pivot our unrealistic expectations on someone else?

I hope for great seasons from everyone on the team...but yeesh. nothing we've seen out of youssef has shown he's ready to make the leap yet.
Johnson foul issues:

21-22: 13 games, 5.2 min per game, 1.2 fouls per game
22-23: 12 games, 3.9 min per game, 0.5 fouls per game
23-24: 40 games, 16.1 min per game, 3.0 fouls per game

I'd be more worried about his fouling if last year he avg 4.8 per game, but 3 fouls per game on 16.1 min per game only concerns me if he plays 40 min per game, which 0% of people think he will with Reed Jr in play.

3 fouls per 16 minutes a game is too high even if we're only expecting 20 minutes from him. Yes he could technically play his 20 minutes without fouling out at that rate, but it's going to severely limit his effectiveness.

He might be on the court, but he won't be able to play as aggressive in those minutes with 2 fouls in the 1st half, or picking up a 3rd early in the 2nd half, or with 4 late in the game.

That being said, I don't put a ton of stock into those 2023 numbers. He knew he was getting 10-15 minutes most nights, and fouls weren't a concern. I'm sure a different mindset is being drilled into him this year

What college teams regularly play a 3 man rotation at center? Hell, alot of the good/great teams with a very good to great center barely even play their backup, which is why alot of the Samson bashing last year was indicative of UConn fans being stuck in their own bubble.

Just got a feeling ‍♂️
You've been on the Yard a long time and you rarely post. I'm going to take that as a good omen. My guess is he plays spot minutes this year but if you're correct and he is a meaningful contributor that would be fine with me.

Not to mention last year was essentially his first fully healthy season. Having more game experience plus a healthy year to develop I think will help a lot. Think a lot of people are writing him off as being similar to last year but with more playing time. Certainly not a bad floor, but I’m excited to see if he can take the next step this year.

I feel like it's a very Dan Hurley thing that we'd win #3 in a row and Singare somehow morphs into the closest thing to Hakeem the Dream in 30 years. Meanwhile Ross steals a starting job and does a Rip Hamilton impression.

The real fun of this pre-season and season is that we really don't know what the hell we're going to see. I don't think the staff even knows. It's Gumbo. Throw some stuff in there and stir until it tastes good.

Some guys just develop slower especially remember Charles Okwandu. Think we're gonna need minutes from him in BE play with foul trouble and god forbid injuries( knock on wood). He has rebounded well and he can pick up fouls. Just needs to be a bit more confident on offense he had 2 layups against St John's last year that he should've put up.
Yeah but Chuck was 42 years old his last season

Unless there’s an injury or foul issues I don’t see him playing. He seems like a capable backup center but we have two more accomplished players in front of him and next year he will likely be in a similar situation. I can see him as Reibe’s backup in ‘26 if he sticks around that long but I don’t see a path to meaningful pt before that except for injury.

Singare is a damn good 3rd big. Love his energy and length and he seemed like an eager guy who just wants to win.

I don’t see much of a role for him next year, but if he’s needed in a pinch, he’ll be fun to watch.

Why? I’d rather AK with spot minutes at 5 so it frees up more minutes at 3/4 for our talented wings.

Hurley commented on Springs maybe getting some minutes during pre-season a couple yrs ago....and he then proceeded to never play.

Youssouf is a 5 man insurance policy this year, just like Springs was.

He played two minutes at the end of a scrimmage and many of you have seemingly lost the plot because of him "showing out" with 2 baskets against Rhodys 2nd and 3rd team.

I guess the collective distrust of Samson goes so deep with some of you as to call for aspirational hopes of Youssouf "the Dream" lol and the three headed center rotation. Meanwhile Samson is named to watch list as one of the nations top 20 Centers.....
