While not the age of some you that posted here, yesterday I was showing my teenage son some model collectibles I had. I needed to move a box of VHS tapes, and my son asked what those were, so I said "they're VHS tapes". He's like, "what's that?" Now, it wasn't that long ago that I had the VCR set up in the living room to view tapes, but jeez it's like it was an 8-track. Meanwhile my teenage daughter saw a mini-system that I bought in the mid-00s. She deadpanned to me earlier this week, "Oh, that's definitely from the 80's." 0.0 She didn't believe me when I said the system is only slightly older than her.
What makes me feel old is that none of my music has autotune (and our bands actually played instruments as well as composed music), that and I don't recognize any of the songs playing on the radio.
We actually had singers like Nat King Cole, Perry Como, Johnny Mathis, Peggy Lee, Dinah Shore, Andy Williams, and they had variety shows each week on TV.

This one thing that I appreciate in that when my daughter listens to Christmas music, which she'll likely start doing next month ^_^, she'll stream many of the singers you listed (I'm particularly fond of Bing Crosby).

My 41 year old son was in my office the other day and saw a ticket stub from 1973. He asked who is SHA-NA-NA? I told him a singing group who sang doo-wop, jazz, rock and roll and almost any other type of music that you could think of. He looked at me and stated what is doo-wop? Told him some of the best music you will ever hear. I also told him to look them up on You-Tube or even watch Grease to get the feel of their music.

Sha Na Na was great! I remember watching their TV show with my nonna (grandmother), who didn't speak a word of English, but we'd watch Sha Na Na then watch wrestling.

That's one of the things I love about You Tube, you can go and listen to artists singing the old songs all day long.
I worked at Home Depot for 3 years finally decided 2 years ago at 76 should retire.
Back during covic the CEO let those of us 65 and over take paid time off . Took 3 months and spent a lot of time like that.
Also listened to many of my CD's

You know you are getting old when...You are standing in line for coffee and there are two girls in front of you and one of them says to the other " I didn't know Paul McCartney was in a group before Wings".

About 15 years ago, I was having my nails done by a 20-something year old woman. I had been to a charity function the night before and told the nail tech that I had won a cookbook signed by Paul Newman in the silent auction. She gave me a blank look.

Me: Paul Newman - Butch Cassidy? Cool Hand Luke?
Nail Tech: (blank look)
Me: The voice of Doc Hudson in Cars?
Nail Tech: Ah, oh, well, that's nice (about winning the autographed book)

Man, I left that shop feeling pretty darn old.
So many years back I stopped in the Carvel in Westport as we had a job nearby, and in front was Paul Newman and a couple of other guys, and in front of them was a woman who had just bought an ice cream cone. She had looked around, saw Newman and was obviously taken aback. After a minute, she pulled herself together, and looked around and asked, "where did I put my ice cream cone?" Newman replied, "I think you put it in your purse..."

I'm 36 and my Grampa works on and customizes old cars (like from 40,50,60,70's) basically muscle cars. I love helping him and know a lot about cars. Some of them we find have 8 tracks or cassette players. So I dig out his old 8 tracks and drive around playing some Jimi and blow peoples minds when I stop and talk to them and show them an 8 track.
The older people are blown away and say "yeah, i used to have one of those"

When your sons date brings her grandchild to a family cookout.

I enjoy watching music reaction videos when a 30 year old reviewer realizes that a rapper’s music has sampled a classic rock song they are reacting to

Oh wow, that may have been the year I bought a new Chevy Vega. What an awful vehicle!

I had mine until around mid 1978, about 85k miles. Didn’t want to attempt another cross country drive (from San Diego back to CT). Overall, a positive, but I must be one of a very few to think that way.

That happened to me in the ‘80’s (sans the coffe shop part).

Around the same time, at a Steve Winwood show, Steve sang “Soul Man,” and the kids in front of us said, “What’s he doing singing a Blues Brothers song?”

Last year, I started a music thread entitled "Young People sing old songs." It's good to know some people are keeping our music alive. Here is a group you will appreciate, they put on a great show!

30 or 20 somethings who never heard of Streisand, Ronstadt, Sinatra. But i know i am old when my older grandkids are as old as some younger pro athletes. I guess I missed my shot at pro ball.

Had a similar kind of thing happen to me a few years ago. Living here in Indianapolis this exchange was between me and a bartender at an Applebee's that I frequent quite often.
She was asking me about where I worked and asked how the people were that I worked with. I said most are pretty nice and don't bother you, but it can be sort of a Peyton Place at times.
She looked at me and said Peyton Manning? What's he got to do with where you work?
I don't think I ever got her to understand the point I was trying to make.

I'm almost 73, and live in The Villages, Florida where everyone is old, but some of these comments and stories are making me feel much younger! Ha! It is very therapeutic!

There are several things that will make me feel really old. If someone asks me if I still participate in sports and I say bocce, shuffleboard, or horseshoes, or if the bagger at the grocery store asks me if I need help getting the groceries to the car and I say "Yea I don't think I can make it". Mentally when I start watering the artificial plants and wondering why they don't grow.

But I can certainly relate to many of the things that have been posted here so far.

About twenty years ago I was riding the U-Bahn in Cologne when a middle aged lady got
up and offered her seat to me. I thankfully declined her offer ( but only because I was
going to get off at the next stop ).

Yes, yes, we did...! And Julie London too, every Septemeber I dig up and play this great tune from her:

I just heard of the passing, yesterday, of one of my favorite friends from school. When I thought of her I also thought, like you did, of a special song. RIP Jeanne.
