Was talking to a fellow Yankee fan who asked how it is possible for so many players to go out with injuries this year? We both remember that in 1961 the Yankees had Moose Skowron on first, Richardson on second, Kubek short, Boyer 3rd, Maris, Mantle and Hector Lopez or Bob Cerv outfield and Yogi behind the plate. The entire season. And the lineup didn't change that much year in and year out. Now these guys take a step or a swing and their muscles are shot. They played baseball their whole lives but no weight training. Crazy stuff.

It's nothing short of historic that they've been this good while losing the most combined time ever to the IL/DL. Been a great ride but there's still a little more to do.

Something clearly needs to be done about the training staff. Encarnacion's recent knock was like the fourth oblique strain on the team in recent memory. Sanchez has injured his groin multiple times over the past couple years, too. Sure, there are some freak injuries, like when Judge got plunked and broke his wrist last year, but a lot of these should be avoidable.

Ask Tiger what excessive weight training can do for (to) you.
The fences at Yankee Stadium are so much closer than when Mantle and Maris, Yogi, and others played that Mantle's doubles to left center and center would be home runs today and the only weight lifting he did was bending at the elbow.

461 left center field.

Who was on first.

Yeah, you really just hate to see it! Doesn't really matter, NOBODY is beating Houston this year! That pitching staff is just disgusting with Verlander, Cole, and Greinke.

Mantle wasn't facing the same pitching. Hard to compare.

Guys like Urshela and DJ having career years all at once is bonkers.

This is a guy who was a top glove man but hit so poorly that even penny pinching and borderline elite FO team CLE cut him.

They just lost 3 of 4 to the A's and that "filthy" staff gave up 21 runs one game.

Verlander and Greinke gave up a combined 3 runs in the series and Cole did not pitch!

Thankfully Yanks are getting Sevi back and Paxton has really hit his stride winning his last 7 starts. Should be a great ALCS!

You forgot that Mantle was in the hospital and out of the lineup in the heat of the rush to break Babe Ruth's record.

And yet they still lost? It's between them and the Yankees but I see alot of Red Sox fans trying to make it sound like Houston is unbeatable and they are beatable.

Yanks fans are really in huge trouble the staff is ugly. I mean the Astro's Verlander, Cole and Grienke is whacked vs Tanaka, Maple Leaf and Germain huge trouble.

I know it's baseball and not another sport, like basketball where it matters, but I honestly feel like home field will be a huge difference in a potential ALCS matchup, if for nothing more than knowing a 2017 scenario can't happen to them again.

One would guess but Paxton is very good now, Severino will be back, and Tanaka rises for big games, on top of the pen being the best in baseball.

When you have an alsoran like DJ LeMahieuwuw putting up MVP numbers no one is crying for you

Verlander got beat 3-2 and Greinke won 15-0. Playoff baseball is NOTHING like the regular season and Houston is about as close to a perfect playoff roster as you are going to get! They can beat you in so many different ways, their lineup is stacked, they are one of the best defensive teams in baseball, their Top 3 in the rotation are the best in MLB, their bullpen is stacked, and their bench is loaded!

Paxton has been pitching well lately, but has ZERO postseason appearences, NOBODY knows what you are getting with Severino, Tanaka is just awful, and their pen is good but NOT the best in baseball. In fact, Houston has a better bullpen than the Yankees!

I’m a die hard, lifelong Red Sox fan and I’m amazed at what the Yankees have done this year. Every plug in guy has played way over his head. I’m sure someone probably knows, but they have to be close to a record in terms of man games lost vs their opening day roster. Big props, it pains me to say!!

I’m rooting alongside you, but everyone knows crazy stuff can happen in a short series. They are not even a lock to play each other!!!

I guess the Yanks should just forfeit the ALCS.

Also ran? Won a batting title in 2016.

You had guys do the same last year career years you need them to have magic. No one asked anyone to cry by the way just stating the truth.

Your fandom is obvious and obvious "what kind" of Sox fan also .

And the statement that playoff baseball is different to Yankee fans is hilarious too. We've been in them 20 times since '96 think we get it.

Well, you haven't won too many of them lately(past 15 years NY 1WS<Boston 4WS) so I wasn't sure. :D
