Xavier Postgame Thread

Few thoughts:
*We heard and saw some glimpses that Allie is an amazing 3-point shooter and today she was out of this world, 10-14...wow!!!
*it was so good to see how happy and excited the team was for Allie!
*Was this not the worst game of Azzi's career on offense?
*the defense for the last 3 quarters was crazy good. this team is special! practically no weak links on defense with few truly amazing defensive players (KK, Sarah, K9, Shade, Azzi and not even counting Serah and Blanca who are fantastic defensive players).
*Still too many missed layups
*As i was watching at home on Peacock and had great fun. I'm sure that everyone in the arena (aside than maybe the Xavier team members), had a blast. games like this show that even while winning by 58 points, the game is fun to watch.
*Happy for A. Edwards who gave great 4 years to UConn and grew so much as a player in those years. Should be an example for future recruits of what happens if a player comes to UConn and is willing to work hard on their game under the coaching of the best staff in the business.
*We need Blanca and Serah for the TN game. hopefully they can play.

I liked Allie from day one. You can see she has a perfect 3 point shot... Her mechanics are excellent.

No doubt she probably took a million 3 pointers in practice during her high school years..

I would be shocked beyond belief if anyone beats Uconn this year....This includes S.S. , UCLA, Tennessee and Texas.....

K9 has 8 rebs, 8 asts and 3 steals
And she was "robbed' of a bunch of great assists by players missing wide open shots.

She was on a mission tonight: All over the court on defense and then under control but driven to set up her teammates on offense by driving into the middle of the zone. A masterful performance.

There is no replacing Paige as a PG, but KK and K9 can set the tone in a completely different fashion.

This team has been sending the message that they are for real.

Tonight was a test of the ability of this team to play UConn basketball without 2 key players. Mission accomplished.

Next - Tennessee.

What a 3pt turnaround. After clanking 1-13 against the zone in Q1, UConn went on to hit 14-21 for the rest of the game.

Allie is now shooting 48.2% from the arc.

Allie hit her 10 threes from a 22'-1.75" arc. Maya in 2009 hit her 10 from a 19'-9" arc. Kaleena in 2014 and Katie Lou in 2017 hit their 10 from a 20'-9" arc.

Am not sure what is wrong with Azzi but she better get back on the Home Page. She is slipping and fading. I really want her name of the wall. But her game has to return and it needs to start against Tennessee.

Every time there was a sub, I expected the Xavier to be wearing those damn ears you can get in Orlando.

Historic night from Allie. Ash and K9 also played their best games of the season imo. They really looked incredibly confident out there.

Great to see those three step up when Azzi was off her game tonight. In post game, Geno said she wasn’t 100% and seemed to imply she has been sick.

Hope everyone can heal up injuries and sicknesses before Sunday!

Quarters 2. 3. 4 were a clinic. Allie was absolutely sensational, and demonstrated why she was 2x Wisconsin player of the year. Strong was her usual - just so consistently good. Heckel did her best impression of Shade, who did her best impression of Heckel. Those two are the horsepower that drove the engine tonight. KK was solid as usual on offense and defense. Some good minutes from Jana, who just misses too many close up. Did anyone notice how Caroline was keeping Jana cool after she was angry for coming out after missing an easy one? Azzi, well, if was an off night, although I think she is pressing and rushing her shots!
Caroline is a coach one day....

Fun night at Gampel, I really liked Aaliyah’s speech before the game and the tributes she received on scoreboard video from Nika and Paige. Classy.

That first quarter was weird but the universe reset itself soon enough. 9 steals by Shade, I loved how UConn was doubling players from behind in the paint and ripping it away before the referee could call a jump ball. Also coming up with all the 50-50 balls on the floor.

I have seen two UConn players make 10 threes in person now, KLS and Allie. They seem to me to have very similar shooting styles, and it is very cool to see a shooter in the zone. Everyone in the arena knew that Allie’s tenth one was going in. Money!
