Xavier Post Game Thread

How is Gus Johnson not even 60 yet but deteriorating at a rapid pace while Raftery is 82 but still sharp? Gus used to be one of my favorite play by play callers during his CBS era and has a long list of classic calls, but he is unlistenable now and turned into some zany cartoon character.
Well said. I unfortunately feel the same way. Really enjoyed his energy and winning time calls. Now he's constant annoying chatter. I unconsciously tune him out without even realizing it.

He is impossible to listen to. All shtick. Very little knowledge. Comes off as arrogant imho
For as much as people complain about Donny Marshall, he is far better. Cmon half of Donny’s ramblings are entertaining.

Raferty might be my all time favorite. I love that guy, so many great memories with him calling games.

See, the sky didn't fall. Some you aren't taking the Kool-Aid and should be punished.

Nice to see Malachi hitting shots and not too much wild play/ball pounding. Demary's 2nd foul was ridiculous. Ross playing like HW611 is right, hope he can keep that up because he made some good plays all over. Mullins needs to be a little more patient with the 3gun, he's firing them without the consideration they deserve. Loved the sequence when Ball airballed a 3, got the ball back and drained it. His expression was hilarious.

Looking like we get to fight the Hoyas tomorrow! LET'S GO

Really good read, Jaden. Can ESPN, CBS Sports etc. use your writeups instead of what they get from the AP or their other sources? Your game articles are much more entertaining reading and come out at about the same time postgame as the others. I encourage you to look into it!

Jaden Ross was awesome off bench. The steals and deflections were huge. They need a guy and can bring the deflectionsand steals and energy on defense.

Karaban and Reed were incredible in first half.

Ball was incredible in second half. Team in general played poorly in second half, but his threes kept the cushion in place.

Smith also played great off bench. I think he needs more minutes as 2G. He has been by far their best shooter from 3.

We're good people, and I love Jayden Ross

I'll be back

Why are you scared of playing Nova. We beat them twice with the second time up by 20 at one point and now they are missing their power forward for the year. We shouldn't be scared of playing them if we have realistic expectations to win it all.
Did u ever say I was scared?

Correct answer to that question is "no".

I simply stated I would rather play Georgetown.

Why? So we can have a tougher game and lower our NET rankings. Playing Gtown does nothing for us if we win and if we lose it will kill us. Georgetown is the tougher match up for us due to their size and athletes. Once Villanova lost Hodge they lost any chance of doing anything in either the big east or ncaa tournament. I hope we demolish Gtown tomorrow but we have not always beat teams we should handily and lost twice to inferior teams.

No need to apologize. @RuffRuff and I were discussing that Ross is the most athletic player on this team. 2026 sorely lacks athleticism in general, and Ross brings that to the table. Indeed, we were comparing past players (most athletic players on their respective teams), but it was more in a how can/did their athleticism make the team more complete. You were calling it a lazy comparison, but it wasn't really lazy, just an easy one.
And what about hair comparisons between AJax & Ross?

Why? He was shooting 50% from 3 entering the game.
Not lately. He played well early in the year, but couldn’t even make foul shots for a few weeks. This was his best game in a while.

Ross is a live wire, I really want to see him more consistently involved as a pipeline for transition offense which we’ve sorely missed.

Reed is a force, really should be taking full advantage of the mismatch in the first weekend of the tourney. One thing underrated about him is his passing ability, he has a high assist rate for his position.

Smith always has a game where he becomes more decisive and aware. He really just needs to make quicker decisions, that’s when he makes the best ones.

Mullins was alright outside of a bad shooting night, but he’s crossed a point where I’m convinced he needs to stay around for an extra year of development. Also needs to get a bit stronger.

Overall, great game though Xavier was the only team we hadn’t struggled with at any point of conference play. Georgetown will be telling, they are not easy to deal with.

I really appreciate that man! I’ll see what I can do going into next season!

Mullins seems to have take a step backward. He had some nice finishes at the rim and a couple nice defensive plays but he is in a 3-pt shooting slump and he can't keep guys in front of him without fouling. We need him to step it up and quick.
To be honest, his game inside the three point line has been quite a bit better than outside the line for much of the season. He has great shooting form, but seems to take his time more lining up a shot on the move or off the glass than the instantaneous shot from three.

I am worried about Mullins shot. We are running out of runway for him to take off. I'm beginning to think we have already seen his best game. Even at his reduced contribution he is still a weapon. He can score in multiple ways, not just a shooter. Would like to see him get to the line a little. Check that, I would like to see any of us get to the line. It is just not a strength of this team, although they shot their free throws well tonight so there is that.
He still has up to 8 games left to get it going, but he really needs to consider staying. He's staring at almost the exact same situation as McNeeley, complete with the same kind of shooting woes and in season injury and he's likely going exactly where McNeeley went in the draft. If anything, Mullins is less physically ready for the NBA than Liam and he spent his rookie year in the G League. How is that better than UConn ?
