Xavier Post Game Thread

Has anyone ever seen Mullins miss a midrange shot? I know he has, I just can't recall it ever happening.

He'd have a lot more time to shoot his 3s if defenders feel the threat of him taking them at 15 feet.
He's been non-called fouled on more than a few mid rangers he's missed too.

I agree - Both Solo and him need to put their man on their heels. When you are a three level scorer, you can't settle. Make it hard for the defense and be unpredictable. Solo fell back into being predictable this game, while the second half Braylon started doing some interesting things.

I only mention them because those were the standout athletes on Championship teams. Ross is the best we have to fill that need.

We all know he is not in Castle's league, but I think Ross can be a poor mans AJax. I mean Ross has a 3pt shot...so maybe could end up on par with AJax if you consider the offensive versatility.
The Ross/AJax comp is such a lazy one. Offensively, they are wildly different players. AJax ran plenty of point for us and was a great facilitator but couldn’t shoot. Ross has turned into a pretty decent shooter but isn’t really a facilitator and struggles with the ball under pressure.

36 minutes of really good basketball. A sloppy first four minutes of tje second half and clown show refereeing for 15 minutes of second was only thing making the outcome interesting.

No one really played poorly. Sure Mullins shot poorly but they were good shots.

Real good scoring game by Solo.

Reed was a beast and Alex ran the X defenders ragged.

Malachi with a great job in the first half.

Ross was a pest all game and got to shine on a couple of breakaways.

This wasn't a tough game physically. Everyone should be rested for tomorrow night.

You are missing the point...

Where was that fire against Marquette? It was his last chance at a BE regular season title. Thought it was a little strange in his pre-game interview to imply that the games ahead are bigger than the Marquette game. Maybe that is true of the NCAA tournament, but is the BE tournament championship bigger than a regular season championship? Not for me its not. Both are equally big.
The car's moving. Not the time to be yelling at the rearview mirror.

Haven’t watched the game yet, but after reading these comments.

Sorry, I read the post where you said Ross could become a poor man’s AJax, including talking about their offensive games, and assumed you were comparing the two.
No need to apologize. @RuffRuff and I were discussing that Ross is the most athletic player on this team. 2026 sorely lacks athleticism in general, and Ross brings that to the table. Indeed, we were comparing past players (most athletic players on their respective teams), but it was more in a how can/did their athleticism make the team more complete. You were calling it a lazy comparison, but it wasn't really lazy, just an easy one.

I agree. I can easily see Ross winning the Grand Slam.
Ha!

Seriously though, Ross disrupts passing lanes and squares up on D really well. Not much of an offensive game to speak of, plus he's a key asset off the bench.

Yeah Bobby is in the HOF, but don't let that slow me down. I'm on a roll here.

I like him on the floor, as he has a unique role on the team. He's not going to hunt shots, only take the ones that come to him and let Ball or Mullins get theirs, along with AK. This way he can set up for O rebounds or get back and play D. I just don't think you can have too many shot hunting focused players on the floor at once and have roster balance.

He also gives you defensive structure when Silas goes out early with 2 fouls, which happens every third game.

The other thing Dan Hurley mentions is wanting his players to adlib more. Athletic players are more capable of this, but you do need to give them enough minutes to start paying that off.

I'm probably showing my age here, but you know who Ross shows glimpses of?

Bobby Jones.

Nah. The Secretary of Defense was much bigger.

Ross is playing nice right now and with JStew hurt he knows he is getting 18-20 min. I'll enjoy it for what it is.

How about Mullins shooting 1-6 from 3?
For a 25 point win you're pretty negative all over this thread. It's O.K. to be critical, I know I am also at times, but geeze every time you say something good you point out something bad. Are you always this critical? I've never noticed before.

I'm good with sitting at a 2 seed in the tourney to not have to play Nova
Why are you scared of playing Nova. We beat them twice with the second time up by 20 at one point and now they are missing their power forward for the year. We shouldn't be scared of playing them if we have realistic expectations to win it all.

It wa Xavier and we just have their number. I wouldn't get to confident. Let's see how they do against better competition.
Right now that is looking like third game with Gtown - Nova looks lazy.

Yep, I rather play Nova without Hodge. They are too small. G-town is tougher matchup. They have no Lewis but they have a lot of size and athletes that give us trouble.
