Xavier Post Game Thread

Stat averages don’t swing much based on 1 game at this point of the season, but there are a few things I still find interesting to keep tabs on

Solo - another rough shooting night and he’s down to 40.8% FG and 28.1% 3P. But he’s still our leading scorer at 14.3 PPG

Tarris - up to 64.8% FG thanks to his 19-20 shooting in the last few games. Just behind Solo at 14.1 PPG

Insane 3P shooting from the rest of the lineup. Karaban (40.8% on 4.5 attempts), Braylon (38% on 5.8 attempts), Silas (47.1% on 2.2 attempts). All shoot >80% FTs too, along with Solo

For reference on the three point shooting, last year Solo was 41.9% on 6.9 attempts. Cam was 44% on 5.6 attempts. Hawkins was 38.8% on 7.6 attempts

Ross up to 38.9% 3P after his 5-6 stretch in the last two games

Incredible offensive efficiency, especial from Reed. What a beast he is! If only he could make FT's. I don't know what happened to him. He wasn't a bad FT shooter last year.
He's certainly capable. He had a game a couple weeks ago at G'Town where he was 5-5

He would never come out and say Eric and his Dad aren't happy about his playing time. That would not be wise for any coach to say in a presser.
He sees the kid every day. He knows how he feels. If Eric were in the DC position wouldn't have Dan Hurley said "Eric knows that he is learning and is just working hard everyday to take that next step"
He went straight for the "I hope he sees..."

He also said "I hope Eric AND..." and then didnt finish.
This is fun speculation, and maybe a bit out there but maybe he was gonna say "his parents"

Not a lot of thought goes into what is said in a post game press conference.

.-.
If anyone caught the post game press conference with Hurley, was he insinuating that there are issues with Reibe and his people not being thrilled about his playing time?
Well, that would be insane.

Xavier quit in the first half. And I don't mean letting up a little when the game gets out of hand, which is the right thing to do. I mean blatantly not caring from the opening tip.

I like wins as much as anyone, but as a fan of college basketball, tonight's game was a travesty. Xavier could not have shown less interest in this game if they had played in jeans. I have seen a lot of blowouts across college basketball this year, but this was the first time I was in the building for one. You could see the indifference in the body language of the Xavier players during dead balls and timeouts. How many times did Karaban just walk to the rim without anyone challenging him? I have seen more defensive effort in middle-aged pickup games than Xavier showed tonight.

When the players are getting paid, they should play harder, not shuffle around the court for 40 minutes like Xavier did tonight. This game was a total embarrassment for the sport, and there have been a lot of games like it this season. I don't know what is happening in college hoops (or football, where this also happened a lot), but someone in charge better get to work fixing it or the fans will stop caring too, and that will be the end of the party for everyone.
And I thought Donyell360's take on this game was bad

.-.
The Yard is a funny place. They win impressively tonight and at this point this post game thread is just 4 pages.

They struggled in a win against Providence a couple games ago, and it was 23 pages.

Apparently there was just not much to complain about.
Welcome to people from the Northeast; many who live to be upset

@temery You're right. I deleted my last post. I re-read it and was like 'what's the point?"
I consistently say I dont like to speculate yet I fell for it. Twice.

On to MSG and continued rolling

Can the refs do this after a game is over? Suppose a braul happened after the clock ran out. Are penalties assessed in the next game, like setting out a player?
I believe they can, until they leave the court.

Yeah, I thought it was a bit odd that he would mention it in that way. Reibe is getting some great minutes for a freshmen and also going up against one of the toughest centers in college-basketball which would make him an even better player for his sophomore year where he will be the marquee center for us. To even have a rumble around his camp about this is maddening. If he were to leave because of this he would have to learn another system that could set him back. Wierd

No, you were right. Hurley didn't just pull that thought out of nowhere. There's gotta be something behind what he said, I'm just not sure how much weight should be put on his comment.

Yep. Any further speculation is coming from a place of - 'we are all so high on Reibe and count on him to be the guy next year' any perceived wrinkle in that plan will be scrutinized

Where are you getting the idea that the analytics say anything about what you "can" or "can't" do? People love to do the thing where they go "only teams ranked like this are contenders" but it's not like there's some magical force that makes it true.
Bc aside from us in 2014 every champion had certain metrics. Two games ago we didn’t fit. Now we do. Look up the trapezoid of excellence.

Metrics crack me up. I remember watching a baseball game a few years ago where they had this ticker by the scorebox showing the % chance each team had to win the game.
It was Rays vs Orioles.
The Rays were up 8-1 in the 7th and the tracker said that the O's now had a 0% chance to win the game. They ended up scoring 4 runs in the 8th and the analytics updated to the O's now having a 30% chance to win

If you have ZERO chance to win.....ummm...

What was the question that was asked?

I didn't get the sense that he or his family are disgruntled about his PT. He's logged 21, 19 and 17 the last 3 games, while Reed Jr who's a senior logged 19, 21 and 22. Maybe he wants more, but what competive kid wouldn't want play more.

Sometimes Hurley says stuff that people just want to read into it. Reibe's body language doesn't seem to support this conspiracy theory.

Geez! We just had a 30+ blowout and this is what this thread is morphing into!
Gotta have something to argue about!

I do not understand why folks ask rhetorical questions like that. Hurley didn’t put Millender in earlier to ā€œgive him a lookā€ because Hurley doesn’t need a look to know that Millender isn’t getting Smith’s minutes. It’s fine if you aren’t sure that Millender couldn’t do better, or even if you think Millender could do better, but you really don’t think it’s obvious why Millender is only getting garbage time minutes at this point (barring injuries or a lot of foul trouble)?

For a fanbase that, for better or worse, thinks Dan Hurley is a deity of player evaluation and development, it's strange how often they question why he's not playing a D2 player based entirely off of some confidence and an open 3 in a 60 point win early in the season.

That’s people’s use of the analytics and their drawing predictive conclusions from the analytics. The analytics themselves don’t tell you that. They report offensive and defensive efficiency over the season.

Far as I recall that only applies to being in the top ten in KenPom. Which, as it turns out, UConn was going into the final in 2014. But they dropped back down to 15 after beating Kentucky.

KP himself says top ten is only a guideline, mostly due to UConn in 2014.

I still don't get what your objection is. Teams move up and down in efficiency. The only reason we were down is because the analytics thought we could have done better earlier and we weren't meeting those expectations. If it turns around obviously the metrics will turn around too. I don't see what there is to be perplexed about
