Calhoun pretty much invented the quick hook. That’s how he taught. The number of names that escaped the quick hook would probably fit on one hand. Ray, Rip, Caron, Emeka….
There’s a difference between a quick hook that he used on everybody and allowed guys to get back in the game and not playing someone at all after they make a mistake because they are a freshmen.

We don’t have to keep being dense about this.

What’s sort of baffling to me is that Reed seems to be a poor man’s Adams and I thought Danny did a great job Adams’s last year of creating an offense where, when they need a bucket, they could get him isolated down low. Seems to be totally missing now. Just endless screens and cuts going nowhere.

Our offense has become so predictable and/or is being so badly run that solo carried last night because karaban’s defender jumped the route.
Two things - staff seems wed to analytics and “shooting”, playing outside in, and they don’t trust Reed as he comes off as inconsistent upstairs. As apt to lose the ball as he is make a great post move.

If in fact he is our best wing defender, which he may or may not be, that says a lot (actually, a little) about our defense. Because I’m pretty sure I could head fake and go by him with ease.
He may be but man the bar is low.

At this point, all I can do is laugh at how all these Clark Kent’s turn into Superman when they play us.

Maddox Jr has done jack-crap pretty much all season against all other teams. Had been in a recent slump where he brought nothingburgers to the stat line.

Versus us, he goes 3/4 from 3, including circus shot fall away 3s that turn into “and ones”.

We played a set of excellent defense last night that ended in conceding a 3 to a dude who was shooting sub-30% in BE play. Great job remembering the scout.

Of course, he calmly swishes the 3 like he’s Steph Curry.

There’s no honor in claiming the refs were good just for the heck of it. They weren’t good, both ways.
Yeah, put the relative fairness of the refs conversation to the side, that second half was hideous to watch, largely because of the inconsistency of the refs. Completely let the game get away from them, then clearly went through a stretch where they were trying to even out the fouls. Truly awful work by that crew.

When it’s 1-2 games, it may be Superman complex, but when it’s 10+ maybe it’s a wimpy villain, lol.

We tried last night if you were paying attention. Unfortunately, in one case, he couldn’t seal off Freemantle for an entry pass on the block. Then his lack of defense kept taking him off the court.

I know “we’re not utilizing Tarris” is your thing for the last 6-8 games or so, and I love the kid, but Tarris has played a huge part in this stretch of games of making sure that he’s not being utilized. He needs to figure it out, we desperately need him to.

Same goes for JStew. It’s maddening to see what he can deliver in brief flashes every 2nd or 3rd game.
It's my thing because we're not utilizing him. I pay attention every game and we're no longer using him. Throw it into him once and it doesn't work out and then totally abandon using him. We don't get easy offense, getting the ball down low to him is easy offense.

Wait, you dont think JC had a quick hook with young players?
Like I said in the other post. He did it with everybody and the quick hook didn’t mean you were benched all game. You were able to get back in you just did something stupid and you were going to hear about it.

Also saying that there were complaints (not you) for Kemba Walker playing time when he got more minutes than Mahaney and Nowell combined on a roster with 10x the guard talent than this one is literally revisionist history.

Making stuff up based on nothing for what reason?

You all better get us now 2.0. Ride or die. It’s a rough stretch but my long term belief in this staff isn’t shaken one bit. You can’t win every year folks. Dynasty after dynasty finds that out. The Chiefs will find that out too. Maybe not today or in 2 weeks. But they will.

a not insignificant part of this board had Stew and Ross going pro soon, so there clearly is some talent evaluation issues both here and potentially with the coaching staff with this roster
Stew is easily the hardest kid on the roster to figure out. He was a complete no show. His operating rythym is so up and down. Also, Ahmad play 2 minutes to a net -9?

I just think Stew isn’t a good fit for this offense. Hes not a catch and shoot guy and for some reason he doesn’t put it on the floor much or seems like he gets actions called for him to do so.

I don’t remember him being aggressive at all yesterday. He seems very talented, just a bad fit here.

You can see the talent with Ross. He is just nervous out there and seems afraid to make mistakes and miss shots. Game is moving way too fast for him.

I haven’t seen almost any drives to the rim for him all year either. Almost all his shots from the half court come from behind the 3PT line which is awful for a guy with no confidence.

Jayden Ross competes way too hard for the way that some of you guys are talking about him. He has flaws, especially offensively, but he’s in over his head because the roster needs him to be.

He’s probably our best wing defender, generally attacks the glass pretty hard, had some good contests at the rim as help side defender, and didn’t turn the ball over. Obviously he can’t have 40/22/66 shooting splits forever, but the reason he plays is because we need SOMEBODY who can guard. Swain was making a lot of noise in the first half and Ross is a big reason he didn’t continue to.

I don't know what people expect from Ross. He is what he is, a very good athlete, raw offensively but someone who can guard some of the bigger guards we face in the BE (who on our roster is going to guard Kadary Richmond). As I recall some of the services had him ranked outside of the top 100 coming out of HS. I hope his offense will improve but right now he's a bench piece who may be a starter by year 4.

Soft and possible bubble team this year....back to back is so rare there has to be a let down at some point. Karaban will be back too no way he's drafted 1st round

Posting up Tarris consistently disrupts our normal offense because we need our center to screen for our shooters. If he can prove he can stay on the floor, maybe that trade off would be worth it. As it is, he had 4 fouls in 11 minutes, against a team who doesn’t play anyone bigger than 6’9. Except for the Butler OT game, he’s been fouling at a higher rate than Samson.

Samson has also been much better recently and has had double figures in 4 of the last 7 games.

Also, more video proof that it was with everybody.

Full Georgetown game from the 2009 team where he pulled AJ Price, Jerome Dyson, and Craig Austrie within the first 3 minutes of the game.

It didn’t matter who you were. Can this board please stop saying the quick hook was only for young players now? We don’t have to make stuff up.

(P.S. our old squads deserve more games that they won on YouTube. It seems like most of the full games are ones they lost lol)

Solo and AK will play in the NBA. Tarris has the talent to make it but we're not using him right. We badly need our best NBA prospect back.

Bottom line when Liam went out we hoped someone would step up. Ross, stewart and Abraham have not. As such we are all praying Liam gets back soon. And that might not be enough to get us in the top three in the final conference standings.
Abraham could not step up until he can get off the bench.

Call me crazy in the old days we would defend this team for being undermanned, under talented and perennial underdog. Uconn won two in row, lost great college players and wasn’t able to replace them. The last two years were short stories; this is a longer one. Reminder to Danny, you weren’t the best coach in the league last night and some of your players respond to foul calls like you. I can’t stand these last play last shot scenarios. When you’re open take the shot.

That's what was said about Ross too and he hasn't developed. The thing is college basketball is no longer really a development sport.
It is for your top end guys like a Hawkins or a Solo Ball. AKA guys who you can tell are a year away from being absolute studs. For a guy like Ross who is at least 2 years away from MAYBE being a contributor...it's much better to just use the portal and get an immediate impact player instead.

I thought this was a great game for us. I know people are complaining, but we almost won. Off night from Solo and AK. With Liam we win easily. As usual the refs were against us pretty clearly especially once we got to the second half. A call or two made fairly and we win. I think it was very encouraging to see Aiden emerge. If we can rely on him to play like this the rest of the way, we will be so much more dangerous. Overall a positive outcome in a tough road game with the refs stacked against us per usual. Can’t complain.
There were some positive developments, especially Mahaney, but, sorry, at this point only a victory can qualify as a “great” game.

This mirrored the Memphis game:

We and Xavier shot the same # FGs and made the same. We out rebounded them, out assisted them out blocked them, and other stats were comparable except fouls and free throws. We continue to foul with our bigs reaching in, or their best athlete goes 1:1 on AK who just cannot handle.

There was a nice stretch in the 2nd half with Mahaney and Ball and Diarra driving and getting fouls on Xavier - we kind of gave up on that but it showed that we can get their bigs into foul trouble too.
