I thought the same thing. It's also why McNeeley's trip wasn't called. It's as if the embarrassment of the weakness of the call against Xavier in that moment caused them to overcorrect and screw it up even worse.

The 2nd call (foul on Ross) was a blatant makeup call, but it did reverse what would have been the refs deciding the game. They were then justifiably so worried about deciding the game that it was a given that there would be no whistle on the last UConn possession of regulation. Hurley said as much is in his post-game presser. It is bad officiating to make up for bad officiating, yet in the end I’m glad the refs compounding mistakes is the takeaway vs refs deciding the outcome.I thought the same thing.
