I can just see our guys looking past Iowa State and towards the match-up with Kentucky and putting up a stinker. I don't like this draw at all. I think we got the worst possible draw I could imagine. We haven't exactly had a ton of success this season against top teams and now we get the top overall seed in their home state if we happen to beat Iowa State.
 
I love this. sure it sux its in kentucky but im positive when calipari saw us sitting there in the 8/9 game he thought "sh%t!". i like this because we`re going to find out quickly whether uconn has a chance to repeat or not. if we get past a solid iowa st. and beat the best team in the country uk then this team has as good a chance as any to win it all and could become the favorite overnight believe it or not. im excited!

Kentucky is going to be interesting. Everybody is expecting them to advance to the final four so there will be a lot of pressure. During the Florida game in The SEC tournament they were pretty shaky for stretches. If Calhoun had five days to prepare a gameplan I say we win. Two days will be tougher, especially with the way Lamb disappeared during the last Syracuse game. But we shall see

Kentucky losing in the SEC title game did us no favors either. They should be very focused.

ND gets Duke in Greensboro
UCONN gets UK in Louisville
Usf or SH shut out

Not an ideal situation but it's what we earned this year, and a couple of weeks ago we we on the bubble thinking NIT, so we should play fast and loose and see what happens.
 
At least we will get to see lots of Ashley Judd. She usually shows up when Kentucky is having a good season.
 
The NCAA couldn't have screwed us more if they tried (and they probably did try). UK, the best team, in Louisville. Given any other seeding and region, we'd be a major threat for an upset in the second round.

We still are. I'm not happy with the placement but if we win our first two games we're a major threat for a FF run

pffff....FSU beat UNC and Duke 12 times this year, and we beat FSU. Just because Iowa State beat a good team doesn't mean we can't beat them.
 
It is what it is thats what happens when you have the season we have had, I bet our kids are excited to take on the number 1 team in the country if we can get past Iowa State. We have nothing to lose in this tournament just go all out and I can live with the end result.

its the one bracket you did not want but if uconn wins 2 games things change really quickly dont they? this will let us know quickly if we are ready or not.

if we were to beat Kentucky that alone would make my season
 
excellent just the matchup i predicted and hoped for. This is gonna be fun guys dont worry too much. Kentucky is going home early and its going to be fun watching Drummond dunk and body Davis and Jeremy have his way with Doron lamb. Boatright crossing Teague over. UCONN time baby lets go.
 
I think we can take encouragement in this: Calhoun has never lost in the first round when he's had a whole team (I don't count 2008 because AJ got hurt). In JC I trust. Bring on Iowa St and UK.

Mine too, but the odds are clearly against that assuming we advance to that game. Of course, this is a perfect JC "us against the world" scenario, so stay tuned.

free throws in the clutch
inexperience and lack of depth at pg
forget to get it in the post and get too perimiter oriented
their pg is a terrrible defender is going to have serious problems with boat and bazz.

if we get past iowa st. uk is going to get all it can handle from us. if we play as well as we did in the be tourney for stretches.

Take out the word 'Kentucky' and replace it with 'UCONN' and you could be describing us. If they have the same weaknesses as us and they are 31-2 and we are 20-13, I wouldn't call these weaknesses for them in a head-to-head match-up.
 
Iowa State did manage wins over Baylor and Kansas (both in Ames), but they were also 1-2 against a crappy Texas team. They're not pushovers by any means, but Uconn is far more talented. Then again, UConn's lost to a lot of teams it's more talented than this season.

If UConn plays like it did these past two times against Cuse, they should make it to the second round. Beating Kentucky in the Bluegrass State is a tall order, but anything can happen in single elimination.

Anyway, can't do anything about it, so might as well sit back and enjoy. As was mentioned above, there was a point where it was not entirely clear that UConn would even be in the tourney at all.
 
Bad news: This is the worst possible draw UConn could have possibly gotten if they intended on getting to the sweet 16. Iowa State is a very good team, and considering we'll be playing in Kentucky, I'm sure 90% of the people in that arena will be rooting for ISU. If we do happen to win that tough first round game, we play the consensus #1 team in the country in about as close to a true road game as you can get.

Good news: First of all, we get to see Kentucky fans squirm over these next couple days as they thing about the possibility of playing one of the ten most talented teams in the country. Calipari couldn't have been very happy when he saw a potential date with the defending champs looming in the second round. This has been a disappointing season, but IMO, all that disappointment can be erased with two wins in the NCAA tournament. The thought of taking Calipari's best team ever out before the second weekend is enough to make me dance across the Brooklyn Bridge.
