List the worst calls you made in your pro sports rooting life...

Off top of my head some of my beauties....

1. I thought Tom Brady was just a system-type QB and I couldn't believe they were not putting Bledsoe back in.

2. I thought the Pats were nuts to not re-sign Vinatieri. They get Gostkowski, who is just as good.

3. I never thought Brett Gardner would be more than a 4th OFer.

4. I thought Dontrelle Willis was a surefire future HOFer.

5. I was not sure the Thomas plus a 1st rounder to the Cavs for Irving to the Celtics deal was a good one for Boston.

6. I thought Bobby Valentine managing in Boston might work. In contrast I wasn't sure about the Francona hiring at the time.

7. I was glad to get Beckett to Boston but didn't like fact we took on the big contract of "useless" Mike Lowell.

8. I was thrilled the Dolphins hired Jimmy Johnson to coach.

9. I was not sure Brad Stevens could coach in the NBA.

10. I was thrilled the Celtics hired Rick Pitino.

Ill do this in no particular order

1. I thought Phil Hughes, Joba and Ian Kennedy would all be aces

2. Bought the Bob Diaco energy vampire opening press conference

3. Thought Marcus Cox and Scott Hazelton would be the next Uconn stars

4. Thought Carl Pavano would take the Yankees over the top

5. Was excited the Knicks drafted John Wallace thinking he was gonna be a star.

6. Thought Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz would be in the HOF

7. Thought Didi Gregorius would be an average SS

Ok it was supposed to be pro sports oh well .

I was with you guys on those.

Others that come to mind:

I thought Phil Simms was soft and would never do anything for the Giants, until I met him at a father-son sports night in high school.

I thought Cup Cormier was going to be an El-Amin-type, transformational player for us (before we had El-Amin obviously).

I thought Ray was soft as a college player because he camped out at the three-point line and never mixed it up, and I never saw him being an impact player in the NBA.

I thought Lee Mazzilli was going to be the savior for the Mets.

.-.
1. Jerry Rice catches ball going across the middle in a playoff game against Giants in the Meadowlands and proceeds to fumble it. I looked at my dad and said that guy will put up decent numbers but never be anything you can count on when it matters.
2. Every other prediction I've ever made.

I thought Jon Niese and Mike Pelfrey were going to be stud arms for years to come in the early 2010s

.-.
Wanted Miami to draft Eason. Marino? Neah.

.....The crowd is right. Send Harvey out for the ninth.

1. I thought Donyell would be perennial all-star
2. I thought Emeka would win multiple NBA championships, poor man's Bill Russell
3. Nomar over Jeter
4. High Schooler LeBron over-hyped & will take 2-3 years
Transition to wayyyy back machine
5. Craig Swan will be Tom Seaver light

.-.
As a child I decided to be a Mets, Jets, and Knicks fan. Horrible judgement!

Are you my father? He had the same horrible judgement!

Tried to pass them off on me...I only really inherited the Mets fan part...

Karmanos no way is moving the team.

Thought Adonyl Foyle would a better NBA player than Tim Duncan. Oy

Agree with a previous post on Phil Hughes. Especially after the season he had in 2008 and his playoff start against Cleveland

"Joba Rules" deserves more than just inclusion among two other failed aces in a list of 9 other missed predictions.

They printed shirts (multiple versions, IIRC) for crying out loud. More hilarious is that people bought them!

His deserves his own post, at the very least.

A number have been mentioned.

-2nded the Kyrie trade. I thought Kyrie wasn't elite and the pick was going to be transformational.

-I thought Danny Ainge blew it by trading the 1st pick and taking Tatum. Turns out he would have won straight up, even without the Laker's pick.

-I thought Belichick was going to unlock all the potential of Albert Haynesworth. Turns out fat and lazy is just fat and lazy. Who knew?

Thinking Diaco was going to be a good coach
Not wanting to resign Daniel Murphy to the Mets
Kaz Matsui next great Japanese ball player
Thought Harvey was the next Roger Clemens

I'll brainstorm some more and add on later

Not elite? He completely took over the 2016 NBA Finals, hitting clutch shot after clutch shot.
