OT: Working Songs

Am I the only one who remembers the sixties?


I don't think any pop/rock songwriter has ever had the pulse of a country that Ray Davies has for England. This song is a shining example of that. Victoria and Village Green Preservation society are others that come to mind.
 
Richard and Danny Thompson (no relation) made an album called Industry, with all the songs about the industrial revolution, most of them about work. This one isn't about working per se, but about walking off a miserable job to go on strike. It's one of my favorites of his:

 
I was going to post the Blackleg Miner from Steeleye, but we've already had a couple of mining songs. This one has really clever and entertaining lyrics. It's one of those folk songs about a woman impersonating a man to get into a world that men are trying to get out of.

 
Have been looking for an excuse to post another one from the Michael Stanley Band. I like these guys...
