You didn't have the g in place. I'd already eliminated a, e, o, t, c, n & p. Is there was a word that fit '_hi_g' without those letters?

Second guessed myself. First word I thought of for 2nd line was "waltz", which seemed like a crazy ass high risk guess, so I backed off and decided to knock out some vowels. But "waltz" would've resulted in a 3.

Of the ones I have missed, they’re always the word that has a lot of options and I just end up guessing the wrong 1 letter that matters.

got sucked into the same vortex as Deepster. If you've got the ASTE, there are six possible words, so at that point is comes down to luck.

I saw it coming and went with my usual eliminator, but technically I didn't even do that right because it still left two words. CHAMP would have been better. Still got the 50/50 right, though:
