I knew it couldn't be, but there were 11 other choices it could have been, so I still got pretty lucky. I was toying with "giver" or "diver."

"Fiver" I only associate with Watership Down.

I think of it as UK slang for a five pound note. But in hindsight, that means it wasn't a great guess. I had eliminated giver. You were fortunate to eliminate N in word two or you'd probably have my problem. I assume most would go N before V.

Today, for some reason, I got fixated on the idea that the word would be some obnoxious word with rare and/or repeating letters. That didn't work out well for me, but then I got a lucky 1 in 5 guess on my 5th guess, lol:

Spent a ton of time trying to come up with something that included i or a, couldn't think of anything. So closed my eyes, pulled the trigger on the oo, and damned if it didn't work.

That 2nd line was just the worst possible outcome. Had to go immediately to the trick, which didn't give me diddly. Almost did it a 2nd time, which I've never done before. Like landing in a pot bunker and having to hit out backwards, and feeling good you didn't drop even more shots than you did.
