For once not thinking it all the way through actually helped me. Once I settled on trying a word ending in "irth" I started typing "mirth," but then realized I had already used the "m." I started going through the other possibilities and instantly saw the "g," so I went with "girth." If I had seen the "b" first, or if I had cycled through all the possibilities like I should have, I definitely would have tried "birth" first.
