Thought I had a shot. Opened with "avian", which didn't work yesterday, but only got "l" on 2nd word, so took a 3.

Took 7 to get 1st word, then it finally made sense, so got it in 8.

According to Wordle Bot, around 4% of people used SLATE as their opening word. So this was the equivalent of "123" getting drawn on the Pick 3.

I generally just use open with whatever pops into my head, but as @uconn1999 figured out awhile back, around major events, there's a chance the solve will be themed accordingly.
