Didn't think of LATER. Did think of CATER. I'm not aware of commonality between letters like P, C, D & G. Those all seem about the same to me. B and F as well.It's a helluva guess, but I'm not sure I follow the strategy. If your goal was to remove the most common letters left (LNTR) there were several options that wouldn't use riskier P or C (also keep in mind D and G are 2 pt Scrabble tiles while P and C are 3 pointers). Hell, "later" clears 3 of them. "Navel" clears 2. You chose to clear one.
Ultimately, when I am looking at using A & E, I consider the most common placement in slots 3 and 5, not slots 2 and 4. So that's step one. Those vowels in those spots. Note this is important for I as well, since it can fit in slot 4 behind the A or in slot 3 with the E in slot 5. So vowel placement was #1. Then I picked consonants after. My mistake was thinking PLANE was used, I checked and it has not. PLATE had been used (it was also a better guess than PLACE).
