arguably the greatest coach in college basketball history took 15 years to win his first title and previously had never won more than 24 games....How many years did it take Calhoun, now we have a coach that did it in his second year....some coaches lay the foundation and others carry the torch...its just interesting how that works.

Wooden paid all the blue chip recruits as well. Also, the tourney was regional, and i believe you only had to win 4 games back then, not 6.

It's not really an apples to apples comparison that people make when they compare Wooden to anyone from the last 20ish years. Only JC and K have any kind of real claim to best coach of the era. JC wins because obviously, K is a tool.

Sorry, that was a bit of topic. JC too 13 years, KO took 2. At this rate, KO will win 35 championships in his 70 year career as Head Coach at UCONN.....and i'm fine with that.

Wooden was a great great coach………UCLA had a great run in a time which only rivals UConn women's team……..16 teams in the tourney in which maybe 2 or 3 had an outside chance of the upset……….

That car dealer rich dude steered all those kids to UCLA no matter what it took, not sure JW knew that but doubt he tried to stop it no matter. As ibleed said not apples-to-apples though……..

In the famous words of Bill Walton on leaving UCLA for the NBA: " This sucks now I have to take a pay cut"

I just think it is interesting how it can take years to build a program, to solify a style of play, all the little nuances take time to build sometimes. KO stepped into a great system, and sure he has changed it, and he has done a great job, I mean a really great job, there is no way he does that without the foundation. my post initially was just about the fact that wooded took years to get there, but then I had to talk about JC, then KO...not really apples to apples I agree.
