Another late great singer, Karen Carpenter and her version of "Don't Cry for Me Argentina". One of the best voices who sounded better live than in a studio.
There were the big grunge bands that came out of Seattle that everybody knew about, but there was some lesser known stuff that was pretty good. Carrie Akre was in several bands--Hammerbox, Goodness, the Rockfords--and did some solo stuff.
Saw her live a couple years ago. She took a long hiatus from music, did some acting. She dropped her stage name and now uses her given name of Alison Sudol. Didn't perform any of her older songs, but she has reasons for that.
