I love Anne Murray but this has to go under Biggest Mistakes. I think when the Spinners heard they were getting a white chick singer, they didn't understand it was THE white chick singer.

Yikes. I love Anne Murray but....no.

IIRC they ended up releasing this as a single with Dionne Warwick that was a huge hit.

Lisa Stansfield said she was crying before this performance at the Apollo because the audience had booed off the act before her and she was terrified. As it turns out, the audience was totally waiting for her. You can hear them saying "Go Lisa".

I always thought Bang Bang was a contemporary song in 2014 that even fans who grew up in the 70s on would really appreciate.

This song made this lady famous.
Thanks for adding Julie Andrews to this thread. Sound of Music certainly made Julie Andrews a household name in 1966 but she was well known in music circles before this having played Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady on Broadway in 1956 and Guinevere in Camelot in 1960. I love Audrey Hepburn in the My Fair Lady movie but she didn’t do her own singing.

I have a couple of Yma's LPs and tried to find one to post, because her 5 octave voice was so unique. I found this and I think you too will find it amazing. She was discovered in Peru, and was a top selling artist in the 50s. It's worth a listen. (Yma Sumac)

Sorry, I posted the wrong piece. Here's the one with all 5 octaves...
