WNBA Thread - Post Olympics

Gray stepping up big time, but Wilson subpar again.

Griner struggling shooting, maybe that's why this one is a game. Probably better energy level from LV as well. 49-46 Aces at halftime.

Gray not quite ready for vacation. She is out of her mind tonight.

I just had an epiphany. In football if you have a big play and there is a penalty against the opponent, you can refuse the penalty and let the play stand.

On these off ball fouls almost simultaneous w/ a made FG, you should be able to refuse the foul and take the bucket. Makes sense to me.

Wow, now Phoenix looks like Vegas has most of the series. Aces up 20 midway thru Q3. This has been a weird series. Can we maybe get a good competitive Game 5?

Getting Ugly now. My only hope left today is for the Dodgers to lose.

Now Williams is on fire. When the Aces starting guards have been hitting, they've been really good.

At this point, I think you can see the impact of losing Nurse, on top of both Griner and Taurasi struggling mightily. Yikes.

Griner 4-16, Diggins-Smith 5-15, Taurasi 5-13.

This is the exact opposite of Game 3 when Vegas couldn't put the ball in the bucket. Like I said then, sometimes it's not the defense, it's just poor shooting.

I am dumbfounded every time Las Vegas has TO trying to force the ball in to Stokes in the low post. What are they trying to accomplish? She isn't going to score, why even throw it to her? Especially when she's surrounded by defenders.

After looking like an All Star last game, Turner has 4 points in 25 minutes tonight. Only 3 FGA. Also 7 reb. is a lot less than she grabbed last time.

Another off game for Hamby. Is she okay? She hasn't looked even close to her normal self this entire series.

Okay, Wilson had a solid game, but she has yet to take over a game. Just like Game 1, this was about the trio of Gray/Williams/Plum.

Thought I heard on air last night that she's still dealing with an ankle issue. She doesn't seem as agile as she normally does.

A. Thomas has been generally good in the series...but you do kinda have to question her returning just before the playoffs started. This has definitely not looked like the same team we saw all season, especially since the Olympics break. Don't think they had time to reintegrate her and it threw everything off.

Sun need better guards to win a Title. J. Thomas just not good enough as a PG to do the job. I think by now that seems fairly readily apparent.

I think J. Thomas can work for you at PG but then you need a dynamite at the 2 spot. January is a fantastic player but she's also a defense first guard. When the Sun were last in the finals and took DC to 5 games, they had Courtney Williams at the 2-spot. J. Jones, B. Jones, A. Thomas, D. Bonner are all great players, but you need a real dynamite 2 guard to help with spacing. Free agency will be real interesting this year.

Copper looks like the most explosive player in the League and a very good finisher. Saw a little snippet where she said she is the best teammate since she will be happy to go out and get snacks for her teammates or pick them up for as ride. Free Agent who should get some major bling.

Copper was going to get paid either way, but I think this playoffs she's all but guaranteed that she'll get paid by Chicago.

Still, Sky have some tough choices ahead of them: Copper, Vandersloot, Quigley, Dolson, Astou are all unrestricted free agents. It's going to be hard to keep Dolson at her current $175K salary. I wonder if Vandersloot/Quigley take a minor pay cut in order to stay together. I have to imagine Copper will command at least $200K. And while DeShields is a restricted free agent, very possible another team offers her more than Chicago can match.

I've been critical of Candace many times. Have to hand it to her, she's been really good in the playoffs and obviously has made a big difference for Chicago. Congrats to the Sky.
I've always liked Parker since her UT days. Some of the criticism she's received is quite valid, but when she's dialed in she's easily one of the greats even at 35 with her best days in the rear view. I would like to see her get one more title.

January isn't the 2 guard the team needs for a title although she is a fine player. Do the Sun hold on to B. Jones with A. Thomas coming back as a regular when she's healthy? Maybe there needs to be a trade to improve the backcourt depth.

Sacrilegious for this board but Dolson isn't worth a big salary, she's a strong contributor but not a big money player. The Sky will probably have to let at least one of their core walk to keep Copper.

Well once again the Sun fail to go all the way and win the big one. Over the years they've come very close at times but now I despair of them ever winning it even just once. They just can't seem to get over the hump.

Pass the kleenex, please. :(

I'm thinking the lay-off hurt the Sun. They def need an upgrade in the back court. I also believe AT's return hurt they cohesiveness.

let's not forget that the only reason the Chicago Sky are a #6 seed is because of injuries. I strongly believe that if they were healthy all season they are a 2-4 seed. Just like the Mercury being a 5 seed because of injuries. Some bad luck of the draw but again I can't tell you how much I hate the Wnba playoff format. What was wrong with having 1-4 1-4 in each conference in a best of 3?

I missed last night's games but seems like the Sky could not miss in the first half, cooled off in the 2nd half but the Sun couldn't put up points when the Sky left the door open.

Some talk on twitter about the Sun going after Jewell Loyd. i would not be surprised to see Jewell leave the Storm but not sure why she would want the Sun over the Storm or another team. Clearly the Sun need help at the guard spot.
