WNBA Thread - Post Olympics

Chicago up 42-38 at the half. Copper and DeShields playing well.

Collier struggling so far.

Sky up 42-38 at half. No way that should happen with Sky 2-10 from 3. Giving up fast break baskets at will. Annoying as heck.

Sue had a good run pre and during most of the Olympics but she began to tail off at the end. Especially the last game shason anymore at a level she is used to playing. It didn't show the season before because she spent much of the time injured and not playing. e ran totally out of gase which seemed to carry over to the remander of theis season. I think she realizes that her body just can not handle a complete season.

Other than the nice $ bonus, that game was less than meaningless. Sun have been unstoppable since and Storm have mostly sucked.

That was a BIG bonus for WNBA players. It was far from meaningless.

Chicago had built the lead to 10, but Sloot went to the bench and they totally stalled. Minnesota chipped away a little bit. Deficit is 6 heading into Q4. I think they went w/ Evans at PG for too long.

Lynx just not defending at a playoff level. Now 11 point lead and Carleton looked like she may have a hammy?

McBride has completely disappeared since the 1st quarter. Collier still hasn't shown up. Powers has gotten going in the 2nd half. Fowles has been the only constant for Minnesota.

Chicago, known for scoring a bunch but not being able to defend at all, has actually been playing some defense in the playoffs.

Just give me the Aces / Sun in the final. No pretenders please.

Wait a minute. 14 point lead cut in half, 4+ minutes left. Not quite over yet.

The crowd chanting one more year to Sue, with DT urging the crowd. Sue told DT to stop. Based upon that interview, it seems like Sue is done
Great career, but it's time for Seattle to start retooling their roster. Stewie, and Jewell will be getting max contracts, and Sue would be a third, which leaves very little for others.
Phoenix had that problem this year, Diana, Skyler, and Griner. Russell, and Canada are up for new contracts, and Ezi the next year.

Down to 4. Sky trying to pull an epic meltdown. Quigley 3 finally stops the run.

That's at least 3 steals and run outs for Sloot just in the 2nd half. She is being a pest to the nth degree. That was a big one, pushed it back to 9. Coming off a time out and inbound, I'm sure that's not what Minnesota drew up in the huddle.

Looks like getting a single bye was worthless this year. #3 and #4 seed both going down.

I hope this tweet is not correct. The person who tweeted it covers the Storm. If it is, the image of what $ the players got for the Commissioners Cup series/final game is bit tarnished, The person who tweeted it says they will have a full report, but it may be behind a paywall, not sure.

If this call was so borderline, why did NO ONE on the Liberty even so much as look funny at the ref making the call?
There is someone other than me whining about it. But not just one call, but the whole season. That trumps my whining by quite a bit.

Tonight the Sun begins their playoff march to title! Who else is going?

I know there's another thread for MVP, but most of the major awards have been announced. Jonquel MVP, Curt Miller COY, Brionna Jones Most Improved. Clean sweep for the Sun. I'm not sure why 6th Woman wasn't announced at the same time. Seems it's only a matter of which player from the Aces they choose.

I'm not so sure about MIP. I think equally (or more) compelling cases could be made for Mabrey, Whitcomb and Plum. I think Brionna was better in 2020 than people are remembering. It wasn't really that big of a jump from one year to the next. Maybe 2020 was a complete anomaly, but any of Laney, Copper or Hines-Allen would've easily won it this year with what they did last year.

Pretty sure Kelsey Plum won 6th man

Probably some rust for Connecticut after a long layoff (9 days I think I heard them say).

Dolson and the ref whistle are connected. That last foul on a 3pt shooter very bad decision by Stef. Allows CT to get within 3 only down 24-21 after trailing by as much as 12. JJ is not disappointing. She is a phenomenon.

Dolson w/ a bonehead foul on a 3 point shooter...on a desperation heave as the shot clock was expiring. Shot missed by about 6 feet.

Sky falling apart when Evans subbed in for Sloot. And Dolson had a really bad run as well. 12 point lead down to 3 in a hurry.
