WNBA rookie stats leaders

I could be wrong, but I believe that Paige's minutes have spiked since she returned from the concussion/illness. I think that her minutes have ranged from 37 to 39 minutes per game from that point on (I understand the reasons, but its still dangerous for any yoing athlete who very recently completed a season reasonably equivalent to a full WNBA season).

Curious. Are minutes played a factor in the numbers?
I guess you are implying that better comparative information will be gained by normalization — i.e. convert the per-game statistics (above) into per-game-minutes statistics for comparison.

For most players, that is the case. But for a “basketball player” “stat-stuffer” quadruple -efficient (EFFICIENCY, efficiency in shooting accuracy and shot selection, low turnovers) scoring versatile point guard like Paige, one would lose information by normalization.

Geno’s “basketball players” are possession-efficient — they impact every basketball possession, sometimes without scoring and sometimes in ways not captured by boxscores. They don’t take possessions off. They make other “basketball players” better, in part by allowing them to play to their strengths. The offense and defense thus become optimized to win games.

There are few players in the WNBA like Paige and she is performing (as above) on a currently mediocre team (granted, the season is still young) with players who currently frequently cannot be, even remotely, mistaken as “basketball players”, unlike Caitlyn last year. At least there’s next year with the new CBA, if this one cannot be redeemed.

Paige now has 5 games with 20+ points and one game with 19 - out of 11 games played

Minutes have been pretty consistent

Regarding rookies, Paige certainly doing great. Have to give credit also to some of the others like Kiki Iriafen, Aneesah Morrow, and how about Sonia Citron's 27 points and stellar defense mostly on Paige in the Mystic's OT win against the Wings yesterday?

I appreciate Citron's defense on Paige, but I think the real thing that made it difficult for Paige was Washington's execution of their team's defensive plan. They effectively stepped up with double and triple teams whenever Paige got around Citron (combined with the occasional blitzes), and, since no one on the Wings helped out with making themselves available in any vacated spots, Paige was frequently left with the alternatives of taking a difficult shot or just tossing the ball back out for a reset (usually resulting in someone else driving into traffic and either missing a shot or losing the ball).
Citron made things difficult, but Paige was able to usually get by her.
Now, on the other side of the ball, Citron's shooting was magnificent, but she frequently (to her credit) was able to capitalize on being left alone with no defender within shouting distance and (to her credit) constantly made the Wings pay. In addition to her open jump shots, though, she did make one beautiful move on Paige (in the 2nd half, I think) and sank the shot.
So, IMO, Citron played a wonderful 2-way game, but was certainly helped out by Washington's defensive plan and Dallas' lack of any defensive execution.
