A team can only core one player at a time. Does anyone know if a team can trade for a 'cored' player, if they already 'cored' their own player?
Edit: Found answer: See article

"It's not a tag that just sticks to the player, preventing a team from having more than one cored player on their roster. Like Griner, Skylar Diggins-Smith was also cored in 2020, in her case by the Dallas Wings. She was then signed-and-traded to Phoenix, which is perfectly legal because she wasn't the Mercury's cored player."

Other Cored Players: Fever - Mitchell, Seattle - Williams, Liberty - Stewart, Wings - Sabally.

Tiffany was a key addition for the Aces last year, and I expect both the team and the player would like to do it again, but the cap may get in the way. The Aces will probably be looking at 11 players not 12, and quite a few that are at or near the minimum. To the extent they do spend more than that on a key rotation player, the money might be better spent on a big.

One advantage true contenders have, however, is that they can sometimes get a player for less than they could get elsewhere because the player is chasing a ring. It happens in reverse as well, where weak teams in unattractive cities, or with poor facilities, that have lots of cap space frequently have to pay more than market value to get a player to go there.

What could have taken place if Tiffany Hayes had returned to the Sun instead of jumping ship then signing with the Aces?

I don't think Tiffany Hayes staying in Connecticut would have made much of a difference. The Sun's biggest issue was their post play. Bri and AT are both undersized, they handle it well for the most games but in other games they got overpowered and out rebounded by the bigs who dominate the league. Another productive big could have helped them tremendously.

Free agency this year has seen a lot of big names move around. As of yet, I haven’t seen any move that makes me think a new contender to the Liberty/Lynx has emerged.

I think it all depends on who else they can get in free agency. Adding AT is a start

If they can get Bonner and/or Satou, it might be too attractive to pass up for Diana. That would be a title contender for sure.

I mean Vegas is one for sure Jewell and talks of a productive big coming as well. Atlanta has potential with a legit big for once and a depth piece in Shatori. Seattle, Indiana and Phoenix have potential based on who else they get.
